Just saw a patient for ongoing chronic abdominal pain and related issues.
The GI docs diagnosed him with celiac disease and told him to go gluten free.
He could not comply with that diet, so the GI docs sent him to a nutritionist.
He now comes back to me, admits he has a "hard time" following gluten free diet and complaining about his ongoing symptoms to me. I did my best to explain to him that there is no treatment other than gluten free diet, but he just does not get it.
Next patient has ongoing back pain. He works as a gravedigger. I tried to explain that he is doing this to himself and he needs to find a better job. He told me that's all he knows.
I can't fix everything. Sigh.

Got stuck in the snow this morning during my ride. It wasnt supposed to start until later in the morning, so I figured I would chance riding outside.
We got about half an inch when I was out- doesnt sound like a lot, but it was enough to make the roads pretty slick, especially on skinny tires. I lost the back end a couple of times but did not crash.

I have an interesting patient....he did some research and is growing his own mushrooms and taking a micro-dose of psilocybin which he thinks has greatly improved his mental health.
I told him I appreciate his honesty, but this stuff is outside my knowledge base.
Maybe Velo Vol should give it a try?

She can handle small amounts (like what would be in a sour beer) but cant do bread, soy sauce, pasta etc. weve gotten used to it. Most of the food I eat is GF now as well and its not particularly hard IMO if you dont eat **** food to start with. Red Lentil pasta, chicken bread (loaf of bread made from ground chicken, baking powder, baking soda and eggs) lots of vegetables and lean meat. I cant tell the difference between the GF christmas cookies and regular that she made.

I did the first stage of Tour de Zwift last night. First time on the Canyon with the new "training wheel" after re-cabling last week. Now I feel really stupid, because the shifting was crisp and instant, with no adjustment at all when switching from the 'outdoor' wheel. I'm such a dumbass. I thought the slow drop to smaller cogs was an adjustment issue between the two wheels. You know, small differences in the spacing? Nope. I'm just stupid. Next time, I'll change cables at 4000 miles (real or virtual) regardless.

Last night, I registered for the Belgian Waffle Ride (70+ mi "wafer" version) in San Marcos, CA on April 16th. This will be a MUCH bigger effort than I've made since I returned to riding 3 years ago, and I expect to be going into it not nearly as prepared as I should be. While it is technically a race, my only goal is to finish.
