There's a LOT of Mexican places hereabouts. My favorite place in South City had no tables, because it doubled as a mercado and panaderia. Just a counter with a production line where the first guy took your order and got it started and once the meat and tortillas were put together the next guy put on whatever toppings, and wrapped it, and then passed it to the cashier. Cheap, efficient, and tasty.

We have some good Mexican food in the area, but finding a good, cheap, hole-in-the-wall kind of place isn't easy, not in my area, at least. We had a Mexican place open up around the corner from us, and they went way too hoity-toity. The fact that they bombed, closed down and then re-opened, at slightly more reasonable prices and with more grounded food options, only reinforces that opinion. There are a couple of neighborhoods in the city that seem like really good candidates for what I'm looking for, but I don't find myself in those areas too often.

Yeah, one in a while. We had a fancy Mexican place in NYC that we liked to go to once every year or two but, other than that, just gimme good and simple. I really don't want a neighborhood joint with a mission statement of providing gastronomical tours of the country, which is what the place around the corner from us originally touted.

It really should be done regionally, that is, a restaurant should specialize in a region. It's like a restaurant trying to do a culinary tour of the US - you end up half-assing everything.

We have an immigrant couple (documented now) that cleans our house and the office who have worked for us for over 10 years. I still can't understand or converse with them very well, and when I talk to them the response is pretty much "Si" to everything I say. I doubt they understand me much as well. Because of that, we usually communicate through their daughter. I've helped their family with several legal issues, mostly small stuff. They always try to pay, but I can't take their money. I doubt they know what my billing rate is or could afford it.
Their daughter got married about a year ago, and shortly after they were at the house working while I was working from home. They were proudly showing me pictures from the wedding, and I asked Santiago if he cried. He just started tearing up and answered, "Si, si." Told him I'll be doing exactly the same thing when mine gets married.
End of immigrant ramble.

Just looking through their menu - the ingredients, the descriptions - it came off way too pretentious. The wife and I were turned off enough that we didn't even bother walking through their door until they came back down to earth a bit.

There are some areas in the DFW metroplex that are somewhat segregated on a neighborhood level. Nothing like the old Italian vs. Polish vs. etc. type things in the cities. Here it's more a economic separation. Our town is about 1/3 Hispanic, but our economic differences are not that great. While it's somewhat affluent overall, we don't have the really affluent areas that Fort Worth and Dallas have.

For those who enjoy food TV shows and tacos, watch "Taco Chronicles" on Netflix. It'll make you really hungry.

Put the chain back on the cervelo. Shifts well, and look clean. Will test it tomorrow am, if all goes well then I’ll wax my other chains.
Have already been asked by others to wax their chains. I may hang up the ole wings and go into the waxing buisness

Work rant: a patient of mine with a chronic condition went to a specialist. Apparently the patient wants or needs to use FMLA to cover work time lost for this appointment. The high-paid specialist refused to fill out the FMLA form for the patient and said that the primary care doc has to do it. So I am expected to do the dirty work for the specialist and not get paid a dime for all the hassle.
Phooey. No wonder the specialist is driving a Benz and I am driving a Saturn.
