Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It only took a few replies. Surprisingly, no one has suggested leaving a water bottle at home. That usually comes up in weight related questions.
VV is falling down on the job.

That'll learn him to ask stuff in the greater 41.

I almost always carry two water bottles if riding more than 20 miles. The weight has never been my issue.

Walked out the house this morning in tights and other comfy clothes preparing to work in town alone on such a gorgeous day. Realized I had left my laptop in my NJ office yesterday.

I have not asked for much during my many years here. I am going to ask for a second laptop so I don't have to shuttle one back and forth.

BIL, husband of the sister who was diagnoses this last year with hypertension and diabetes, just tested positive for COVID. She's trying to figure out isolation. SO, a nervous 10 days for her, and vicariously for us siblings.

Recently, I've been taking advantage of water stops along my route, plus the cooler weather (hence diminished perspiration), so I have been carrying only one bottle even on the longer rides. But once it's back to short sleeve weather, it'll be two bottles.

I generally carry two bottles and a snack on non-commuting rides. I don't always need them, but I like to be prepared.

On the drive back from scouting out a new bike for the boy, we ended up behind and to the right of a big pick'em up truck being piloted by what looked to be an octogenarian farmer. Despite the 45° and drizzle, he had all but two or three inches of his passenger side window down for his golden retriever. "Awww, good lookin' dog," I thought... until it started repeatedly lunging out of the window, nothing but rear legs, ass, and tail staying inside the cab, hooking its front legs over the passenger side mirror and barking at everything and nothing.

WTF. Dude's just driving down the street at close to 40mph while his dog is dangling out of the vehicle. Meanwhile, traffic starts backing up behind him, because he's going slightly under the speed limit, but no one wants to pass him on the right because his friggin' dog could fall out just as they're passing and they'd run the damn thing over.

After anxiously watching this for a minute or so, he finally did move over in to the right lane. I briefly thought about yellin' at the idiot as I passed on the left, but didn't think it was likely to have a positive affect, so I refrained. What a maroon.

Todays ride was ok but about 1 hour in, we went on a road that had LOTS of potholes. There was a downhill section with fully clear sights, but two knuckleheads got pinch flats. One was a front and one was a rear. Irony is these are the two in the group running tubeless.

One guy put a tube in, but struggled so much he clearly pinched the tube on installation. The other put a dart into the cut in his tread, but the tire would still not seal. He went through 2 tubes and each one was fail. After 45 minutes of this ********, I told them sorry but you gotta make the call of shame.

This was not a ringing endorsement for road tubeless, although I am willing to consider the main problem was operator error.

In another coal rolling incident outside of Dallas, our North Texas group is going all in following another coal rolling incident.

They have taken to social media, Google business reviews, and the like to call this guy out, as he should be.
