I dropped the bike off with a frozen brake pad retaining bolt on the Saturday of a long weekend.
I called on Tuesday and was told the bike was “on” for Friday. FIne; whatever.
I called Friday at noon. Guy says he’ll check and call me back.
I called an hour before closing time. Different guy says, “Ahhh, no, we didn’t get to it.” Because it’s hydraulic, they have to get their “hydraulic guy” to look at it. Maybe tomorrow.
I decide simply to replace the caliper if I finish destroying the bolt and drive through rush hour traffic to get the bike.
I get to the store and the first guy I speak to says, “Oh yeah, I took care of that” (he must have been the “hydraulic guy”) and, lo, it’s fixed.
He rings it up and it comes to $3.50. I say, that can’t be right, but he says that’s it. I interrupt to look at some merchandise, feeling it would be unethical to pay that little. Then the other guy rings it up and it’s 13 bucks. Still a steal, so I buy an CO2 chuck.
It’s just a mix of different forms of pathetic. Ultimately, they fixed the bike and undercharged me, but why would I go back?

Stumbled upon this master piece after dinner tonight. My offspring wanted to go full godzilla on it but I was able to protect it. Sure it will be destroyed by the morning.

A guy stopped into the shop to get a tube and advice on local camping. He's doing the Erie Canal from Albany to Buffalo.

Mapped out my route for tomorrow morning and was super stoked about it. My planned route was going to take me around the cape hatteras light house along the beach and then down to the ocracoke light house. Im glad I checked the satellite image, half of my route was on sand, dont think the 23mm on The Ritchey will handle that too well.
Speaking of bike shops, I am surprised there is not a decent one here in the OBX, the miles of bike friendly roads, and scenery you would think there would be something established here. Oh well.

Near the end of the activities, well into the evening, I was blowing off the driveway that goes through a wooded patch from our parking lot to the church next door's parking lot.
I get to the end of the driveway, look toward the back of their parking lot, and see a pow wow of 8-10 police officers in the corner.
wut
Something is happening.

I cannot remember the last time I had a donut from anywhere.
When I go to the Reading Terminal I see a good number of people with boxes of Beiler's. Some of them have the lids open and are eating them while they walk around.

Even 10 miles is wearisome. Driving is dumb.

I talked to the scheduler for the neurologist today and I need to get the MRI file, the clinical notes from my last telemed exam and the report from my nerve conduction study faxed to them. Then the Doc reviews it and we then make an appointment. The wheels turn slowly.
In other news, I get fitted for my custom orthotics on Tuesday. I might be able to walk without nerve pain in my left foot.

Also,
Isn't that just a conversation you had with the witch doctor?

as it turns out, it saved you from making a mistake and moving there. Imagine how hostile it is for cyclists.

yes, I'm not sure why they need it, I told them it was just a tele-med call but that was enough for them. Hopefully it doesn't say I'm a difficult patient. I did drop the phrase "pixie dust" on the witch Doctor assistant.

But this now is happening with car trips too. If I start thinking about how long a drive will take, that makes me feel tired, too.
It's a problem.
