If you have to ask the question because you see and think about the actual cost, it's probably not worth it to you. If money isn't a consideration and you ride at a level where marginal gains make a difference, then it might be worth it.

This forum is full of guys with expensive bikes who are not riding at a level where marginal gains make a difference. I think it's more about how much enjoyment and satisfaction they get out of owning and riding a more expensive bike.

That's also fair. If somebody wants to have something super nice irrespective of their level of experience, there ain't a thing against that. I guess it's more about what a rider expects to get out of such a thing. I was looking at it from the perspective of a new cyclist posing that question, as they likely wouldn't see much of a performance benefit of a new Colnago or Pinarello over an old Trek or Fuji. If they want the newest/lightest/fastest, more power to 'em.
