25.5" Vintage 1982 Trek 720 Touring Bike - $600

This Trek 720 is one of the holy trinity of classic steel touring bikes, the other two being the Miyata 1000 and the Specialized Expedition. Thirty-five years later, it's not only collectible, but a fantastic touring bike that can do double-duty as a commuter and all-around great ride.

1982 was the first year of production for the Trek 720. Came as a frame only, or fully built up. Color is taupe with brown panels. 25.5" frame with a 35" standover. Suggested rider height 5'11 and up.

Purchased from the original owner. This is essentially a one-owner bike; the only riding I've done is a test ride once I finished.

Features:

--Full double-butted Reynolds 531 frame, forks and stays, Campy 1010 dropouts with adjustable rear

--18-speed half-step plus granny touring drivetrain

--Sugino AT Aero Mighty Tour triple crank, 28-45-50 chainrings

--SunTour barcon shifters, Huret Success front derailleur, Shimano Exage 500LX rear (original would have been a Huret Duopar)

--SunTour Ultra 6 18-28 freewheel

--Cinelli 64 handlebars and 1/A stem

--GranCompe 510 brakes with SunTour Superbe levers

--Rigida alloy 700c wheels (yes! no worries about finding 27" tires!) on Suzue sealed hubs, Matrix Country K tires

--Blackburn alloy rear rack

Condition: Cosmetics: Frame has a little wear, but is in surprisingly nice condition for a 35 year old bike. Components show surface wear. Mechanicals: The rear derailleur has been changed from a Huret Duopar to a Shimano Exage 500LX as noted above, which is a good thing - the Duopar has a reputation for great performance new, but having severe problems with age. I've installed a new chain, a new Forte Performance synthetic leather saddle, and new Charge Bikes synthetic leather tape - looks great, wears like iron, and unlike leather, isn't affected by getting wet. I also gave the bike a full tune-up. Ready to go.

$600 firm, cash only, local pickup only. No offers or trades please.

Available only for a limited time. Once the streets get slick with snow or sleet, I'm putting the bike away because test rides get dicey at that point. C'mon over for a test ride, you won't be disappointed.

I think the "grail" or pinnacale was reached in '83 when they came equipped with cantilever brakes. Nothing against centerpulls, but I do prefer cantis.

Beautiful, cantis or no. Honestly, I would prefer this one. 700c with no issues.

Well, this is probably my size and I'd like to find a facilitator in the south-bay, San Jose area. Can anyone inspect and pick-up this unusual Italian?

Not cheap at $2,500, but there might not be another one this nice in existence. Come to think of it, it probably belongs to someone here.

You'd want to inspect the bike carefully, as always, but I would pay special attention to the rear dropouts as I believe MAX frames were not around until at least the 1990s so the spacing would be 130mm but the bike is currently setup for 7 speeds ie: 126mm. Hopefully there is a spacer somewhere in the mix so that the rear dropouts are not pinched together for that extra 4mm. You can see here in this picture that from the cable rub on the paint that the bike originally was outfitted with ergo/STI shifters at some point in it's life...

I've actually lost interest in this bike, mostly because the seller raised the price to $1150. That's what the bike would be worth in excellent condition. This example requires serious time and money to meet my requirements. It needs both a cosmetic and mechanical overhaul, including an appropriate groupset. No way it's worth more than $700.

Nice looking Trek 720 for $600

Available only for a limited time. Once the streets get slick with snow or sleet, I'm putting the bike away because test rides get dicey at that point. C'mon over for a test ride, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for looking, and have a great day!"

I'm too old for stairwell shenanigans but this vinti observed trials bike is pretty neat and rare find. Anyways, looking past that, zoom on that Paul C. derailleur (and other goodies... ringle, white). You already know what they alone fetch. Now go ride up those stairs, kiddo-

Claimed "NOS" Nishiki Linear - $400

NOS is a bold claim, but it does look pretty cherry!

https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/bi...381785433.html

"NOS Nishiki Linear - $400 (DFW)

Never ridden, at least not by me. The seat tube measures 24" from center of BB to top of top tube. Shimano 105 through out. Everything is original except missing saddle. I believe it came with a Turbo saddle. Owners manual included."

Also in Dallas:

1986 Miyata 1000

https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/bi...354303896.html

"Miyata 1000 Bicycle - $475

This is a nice great riding bike.

First picture is with original stem and handlebar which is included if you want it.

The more modern stem and handlebar is currently mounted on it.

It's a 1986 Miyata One Thousand touring bike
in nice but not perfect condition other than some chips in the paint.

See pictures to get a better idea.

60cm frame size and 58cm top tube.

These is a sought after high quality premier touring bike model produced by Miyata.

A 1986 online catalog has more information.

The wheels and crankset are not original but it has many original parts.

Come check it out. It's a nice one.

It currently has a 3 x 7 (21 speed) gearing set up.

If this is legit, I can’t believe it didn’t disappear in minutes. If any of you Bay Area BFers don’t want it and are willing to facilitate, this thing is my size!
Wow, I'd be all over that as well...

White Road Bicycle, excellent condition - $200 (Cambridge)
Pretty sure that is an Excelle. A nice bike for sure, but $200 might be a litte high. People tend to ask a lot for Loti (apparently that's the plural of Lotus), but maybe I'm just spoiled because I nabbed my Unique for $70.

Serious question: what would be an appropriate groupset for that bike?

I was thinking it was an Eclair, as it has the front fork low-rider braze-ons.

No matter, as it's vaporride now.

A purist would want a Campagnolo Record group from the same year as the frame, this would likely be an 8-speed group with Ergos.

I'm less of a purist and would likely select a Chorus or Record 9-speed. I have a Dura Ace 8-speed mini-group that would be acceptable to me. However, the 7-speed Athena is a mid-level group from an earlier era. Someone may have stripped the original group and installed this group as a way of combining a unwanted frameset with an unwanted group that was simply convenient to combine.

The frame provides Columbus Max exclusivity, but I won't overpay for a bike that needs everything repaired and upgraded.

No local district listed and map puts it out east of Sacramento-

its probably legit, but its cheap because its a 7+ hour round trip from san francisco - which is only sorta kinda local.
