Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Agreed. I will often wave them across while I'm still rolling, so they're clear by the time I'm in the intersection. Too often, they wait - in an attempt to be considerate - forcing me to come to a full stop while trying to figure out what they're doing. Grrr....

I hate that too. The shop is doing an insurance valuation for a customer. He got left-hooked, because a driver traveling the same direction as him waved thru a car making a left-hand turn. Our rider was not seriously injured, but his bike is broken.

One woman SAT THERE, across from me at a 4 way with her left turn signal on as I head-wagged, waved, and ultimately unclipped and pointed, then yelled at me as she passed because "I was just trying to be nice!"

She didn't wave me through. She just friggin SAT THERE. Now, how am I supposed to interpret that? I adjusted my speed so it was CLEARLY her turn. I don't know if she's even paying attention, or would she suddenly take her turn while I'm trying to start off and clip in?

I went shopping in the old city center, this morning, for the first time in more than a year. I traveled there and back again on public transportation, something I've also not done in more than a year. I was amazed at all the shuttered businesses. Hearing about it is one thing; seeing it is another. My fave lbs is still ticking along, though they didn't have my preferred chain lube--- Trii-flo. I got something by Zefal, because I'm flat out. A dry lube, something I've not been fond of. And tubes with shorter stems than I've seen in a long, long time.

This is why I got really pissed at some clown on an eBike on Sunday who DIDN'T EVEN SLOW DOWN for stop signs. Yeah, there was no cross traffic, but there were drivers around. Who do you think they noticed and remembered? The guy who slowed to a near stop, waited a beat and then started up again? Or the guy who just blew through the sign?

If you see the wave, then it's predictable. Now If they wait until everyone is stopped, and then wave, that's lame, because of wasted momentum. But if they wave before you've stopped, then it's good.

Was this a Mup with stop signs or an actual road? Mup with stop signs if I have clear visibility I don’t stop. Road, I avoid roads with stop signs.

tell that to the drivers. Why is it so hard to for drivers to treat us like another vehical? Drivers treat scooters with more respect.

Because many cyclists ride like *******s. Since there is no predictability, people take it upon themselves to be helpful, or otherwise.

Nope - they're not the only people on the road or approaching the intersection. They wave, then you pause, having to reassess the situation because they're not sticking to the script. It's often faster and less dangerous if people do what they're supposed to do, rather than force an ad lib.

Also, there's the whole patronizing aspect of it - I'm not lesser than you [the driver, that is], I'm not some poor schmuck that needs your pity or a little kid that needs your permission. Just drive like you're supposed to.

I’ve reached the point where, when I see this happening I completely unclip and step off my bike. If it calls for severe drastic measures I completely dismount, pull out my phone and pretend I’m twitstagraming or something.

Just picked up “rock n roll” holy cow lube. Usually I go for the gold one but this was the only option and I was trying to show the local bike shop support.

It has been established that those are "Nice-holes."

They are as bad as the Aforementioned holes. (A-holes)

Because a lot of cyclists don't behave like just another vehicle, particularly those of the casual recreational variety. Far too many act like both vehicle and pedestrian, assuming they have the rights of both simultaneously. It leaves drivers wary of cyclists being unpredictable and not following any rules. While enjoying a very nice patio lunch with Mrs. F in a beach community on Sunday, I witnessed this issue almost constantly.

Pity? Because they let you go first?

Try riding in monster truck land and you'll appreciate all the "pity" you can get.
