Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Do all the bikes Cazanovia Bike Store sells have a bell?

Thanks - 2016 Specialized Langster Rio Edition. The fly seemed to like the bell. The bike actually came with white track grips.

I think my wife - who responds to her own muses - does not understand the nature of MY muses.

I told her about the Bridgestone, the one I'm still thinking of buying and stripping for its early 7400 series DA kit. She said, "Since you get enjoyment out of fixing bikes, why don't you fix these bikes our neighbors bought 20+ years ago, barely rode, then left outside for a couple decades?" Neighbor lady doesn't want to throw them out if there's any possibility they might be made useful for someone.

But I've learned that my Bike Fixing Muse only applies to bikes I want to ride myself. If it's for me to ride, I'll go to the ends of the Earth - well, Ebay, really - to find the part(s) I need. I'll spend hours fiddling, trying to get something just right. I'll buy 3 sets of brake pads, trying to find the ones that fit, look good, and work best. But if it's not for me, I can't work up motivation to turn a wrench.

It's the same thing with watches. I would spend an entire day on a watch that I wanted to wear, so we figured maybe it's something I could do for money - buy watches for cheap, fix them and sell them for a lot more. So I bought a couple watches that duplicate ones in my collection - so I wouldn't be tempted to keep them. I can't work up the motivation to turn a screw on them.

This is one reason why I think the old saying, "Do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life" is horse s***. Do something that interests you enough to keep you employed for 40 years.

Sweet!!!! and the bar tape is white!!

I have a Cinelli which has a "similar" argyle (don't know the tech name for the paint color scheme) idea for the paint job.

The reason is usually stupidity or making big decisions with a little head.

I found with photography that doing it for others killed the joy.

I also found that doing something interesting to me, but not necessarily something I love has been much more lucrative over the long term.

Sorry to hear about the issues - not fun dealing with those things.

I got a bug a few days ago. Woke up with chills, cough and muscle aches in the middle of the night, headache in the morning, and totally exhausted. Twelve hours later I was fine. Symptoms seemed like classic COVID, but very short term. I’ve wondered if I had a breakthrough case of some sort.

I have thought for some time that the world is full of pathogens that cause disease that's enough to notice without being enough to make anyone seek medical help.

One time when The Boys were in the low single digit age range, The Older Boy woke up in the middle of the night, barfed all over his PJs, the sheets, the blanket, etc. We cleaned him up, changed the sheets, got a new blanket, plus got a bowl and a bunch of towels, and prepared ourselves for One Of Those Nights when you just about nod off, then the kid barfs AGAIN. Lather, rinse repeat.

He fell back to sleep, slept till morning, and woke up hungry and perfectly fine.

That night, his little brother did exactly the same thing - wake up, barf once, sleep the rest of the night, wake up hungry and perfectly well.

I hypothesized that there is a 'Wake Up And Barf Once' virus out there, but because you only barf once, nobody ever bothered studying it. I suspect there are lots of other viruses that cause what you might call 'subclinical disease', i.e. they make you sick, but not badly enough or for long enough to seek medical help. And not only hard to study, but largely pointless to study as well. So we may never know about them.

I’ve always believed the same.

These days, though, we are so on guard over the Cov, that it seems to be the first thing on your mind.

We’ve all had bugs that never gave us much concern.

Oh, I know. For the past 15 months, every time I felt a little under the weather, my first thought was, 'OH, MY GOD!!! I'VE GOT IT!!!

Gauge is the bore, not the length. 18ga is a big-ass needle, not the size they generally use for immunizations, which are usually 22-25ga.
