Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looks like I need to buy some tools: screw extractor(s) and new 41mm Shimano BB tool.

Try to force in a T30?

I've had to deal with stripped Shimano crank bolts before and it's not terribly fun.

About an hour north of here, there was enough snow to have a fat bike race today.

To state the obvious, snow and bicycles don't mix

He's actually popped up on some other threads lately.

re: your stripped Allen bolt. I would consider grinding the end of an Easy-Out so that it has to be hammered into the bolt. This will allow the use of a much bigger Easy Out than if you drilled a hole in the bolt.

If only one of the bolts is stripped it might help to tighten the other bolt to remove some of the tension on the bad bolt.

You might get lucky trying a Torx bit.

It's recessed into a counter bore.

yeah, you only need access to the top to turn it into a flathead, if the fastener is big enough.

but if one doesn't have one of these, probably easier to obtain the correct extractor. i've just found extractors really hard to use on small bolts, whereas hex cap heads often has enough "meat" to operate on.

I was thinking of grinding an extractor like this until it has to be hammered into the hex. Probably get a lot more torque on it than if you cut a slot in it and tried to use a flat head screwdriver.
Removing broken or stripped bolts is easy if they aren't tight or cross threaded or rusted.

I've had to deal with a couple stuck ones. Hammering a torx bit in there and wrenching the bolt out worked both times.

Thankfully I don't have any such cranks installed on personal bikes.

I certainly miss snow rides. Mud days were pretty bad though. When everything is melting, you have to get your rides in before the sun hit everything and warmed it up to 35°
