Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My PM kept dropping out this morning, it’s been a recurring issue for a number of weeks. Hoping it’s just the battery dying or else I’m the fortunate owner of a $1,000 paperweight

I have become very dependent on my Garmin Varia. I got two lessons in that this weekend. For Saturday's C&V ride, I decided I wanted to go with nekkid bars. No light, no head unit. Just like Olde Timey Bicycling. Every time I had to pass someone, I really missed it, and I had to pass a lot of people (Saturday seems like it's an even bigger bike day than Sunday!). Then on Sunday, the battery charge ran out about 10 miles from home.

Lesson learned - ALWAYS recharge before Sunday.

As far as kits made available for a certain automobile model are concerned, the VW Beetle seems to be a common one, surely you could've parsed that from the original post.

I don't mean common enough to see them every day, but among converted vehicles, the Beetle is likely in the top 10.

Any light car is apt to be done up though, since a lighter car is cheaper to outfit with enough batteries to get decent range.

The entire class is uncommon.

BillyD I rarely post in here, but thought of you after capturing this image w/iphone on Sunday. Juvenile Boreal owl, rarely seen during the day, stopped for a rest in our back yard. She (I think) let me get within a very few feet of her.

The real shame of it is, he's under 17. By the time a trial comes and goes he will be 18. Unless they try him as an adult, he won't have to pay for what he did. His Parent's might get sued. That'll be about the end of it.

Awesome capture. Amazing that he let you get so close, you sure it wasn’t injured?

The shot was luck, not skill, that's for sure!
We did wonder, but I don't think injured. Possibly stunned, though I understand their hitting something is pretty unlikely. No obvious signs of physical harm; both legs/feet working fine to grip the branch, and it was very alert -- doing that owl thing of following our every movement. It was perched as you see about 20 minutes or so after we noticed, then simply flew off -- very quickly/smoothly. If it had lingered, we would have called a local charitable org. that specializes in wild/rare bird/animal rescue and rehab.

I have trouble keeping up. Is this a reference to @DougRNS's beloved (American) college football team?

Either way, no ... she/he was not 'mighty' in any sense. Beautiful, yes, but not mighty.

Maybe the idea of a mighty owl is a myth?

So I think my cat Cavendish is fine now after being quite sick last week. Saw his regular vet and got labwork done today and Doc said everything looks good. He's been getting better every day. Doc said it might have been some kind of bug.

I mentioned last week about how our Atmospheric River storm had blown down a section of fence. Yesterday, it was replaced (not bad! Only one week!), and it looks like a lot of fence got replaced. About 7 panels! And the neighbors are adding a 'privacy screen' - another foot on top of the current fence, because the city prohibits solid fences higher than 6 feet. Mrs. GeneJockey said, "Hey, look at our yard. Can you blame them?"
