Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The September humidity has returned. Drat!

And I became a 21st century man today. I installed a bidet in my personal toilet.

Definitely not getting a Christmas Card this year, that’s for sure.

I always get soaked if I'm making any kind of effort. I've been teased about how much I sweat since I started riding with others. With the right clothes I don't get cold as long as I can keep the effort up.

When climbing to higher altitude, like at least a 2+ hour climb followed by a long descent, I've tried different combinations of layers. Even tried bringing a dry base or jersey to change into at the top. I have a light ski jacket which I've taken with me for descending but it won't fit in a jersey pocket. On mtb rides I have the Camelbak already so plenty of clothes will ft in there.

A few years ago on the New Years Day ride it was 22 degrees when we turned around to go back down. Probably above 40 at the start but after 3 hours of climbing I was soaked. I had base layer, winter jersey,, Windstopper vest, and a nylon hooded windbreaker. Pcad told me about putting chemical warmers inside my toe covers, that worked great. I was fine for the long descent and able to put all the extra stuff in my pockets for the climb.

I stopped by my wife's Trek toy store and the owner asked if I wanted a Madone SLR7, gen 6 with eTap because they had one available. The only drawback besides being a gen 6 was it's in the ladies Trek Segafredo colors.

Not yet. My wife said I could but it was not with a smile and I'm pretty sure my life would be miserable for at least a month or two.

Forty-six years with the current one and I have not always been good, so I’ve experienced the full dynamic range.

"Knowing what's going on" and "Knowing what to do next" are not, however, the same thing.
