If the tire liner works, it works, and problem over. I do agree that a slightly more robust tire is the best answer. I recently had a very new (three rides) 4000 get cut with a tiny piece of glass that pierced the tube. That hurt since I can't find them anymore. I'll likely go tubeless soon and see how it goes this Autumn.
