This seller might do a little better with this Trek if he'd stand it up on the porch instead of taking the picture with it laying half off in the weeds.

Sometimes CL is just funny... this seller isn't particularly a numbskull, the price is about right, maybe even low in this market. But I'm sure glad the bike has the "original tubing"... imagine if some dastardly sort had replaced the Val-lite with 531 or Columbus! Unless, of course, he means it has the original inner tubes, which doesn't strike me as much of a selling point on an old Fuji:

Very rare material!

Trek 1100
South Jordan, UT 84095 - May 28, 2009
This bike is 55cm center of crank to center of top rail. It is made of ChroMo Aluminum. It has flashing lights front and rear, Zefal 3x pump, and new tires and tubes.

Further revised to include the following:

1) Just because your bike was made in Europe doesn't mean you've got a winner. They made a lot of junk, too.
2) A low end bike that was $97.00 in 1976 is not, magically, worth $400.00 now.
3) Adult bikes do not have goosenecks.
4) If the chain is conspicuously rusty and kinked in the picture, nobody is going to fall for your claims of "mint condition."
5) If you get asked how many speeds it has and do not know nor care, pull your ad. Immediately.
6) Telling us that you found it in a barn is not a rationale for overpricing it.
7) Take OFF the $10 price tag from Goodwill before you take your Craigslist picture and ask $250 for it.
8) "Light and FAST!" . . . Ok, if you say so.
9) Not everything with those cooky, curvy handlebars is a race bike.
10) Neither is a race bike "improved" by flipping those curvy handlebars upside down.
11) Don't be offended if someone offers you an insulting amount that is far less than you want for your bike - they're just smarter than you.
12) Don't get ticked off if someone low-balls you when you state "make offer" in your ad. You asked for it.
13) Tires are tires and wheels are wheels. These terms are not interchangeable.
14) Breaks should be referred to as "brakes", petles or petals as "pedals".
15) Your bike was not made by Shimano, Suntour, or Campagnolo. I know you saw that name somewhere on it, but just trust me on this one.
16) Vintage implies it was worth something when it was new, otherwise it's just OLD.
17) High tensile steel - yeah, they put a sticker on the bike that says it but I wouldn't be bragging about it.
18) Go ahead and repost that 10 speed Huffy every week - no one will tire of its charm. If you're willing to endure the humiliation, we'll be there for you until you reach your target market.
19) ALL CAPS DOES NOT MAKE IT A BETTER BIKE.
20) Pictures of the LEFT side of the bike aren't worth much of anything, nobody can see the drivetrain. All things considered, perhaps you'd rather want to hide it anyway.
21) Blurry pictures add a negative symbol to your price tag.
22) If you steal someone else's photos (not the manufacturer's) from the web and use them to represent your own bike, you are absolute scum.
23) "Suitable for fixie conversion" doesn't make a POS frame any more valuable. For that matter...WHAT makes it suitable?
24) If you think your bicycle is worth a four figure sum ($x,xxx), the LEAST you could do is to spell the brand and component names correctly (eg. Trek, not treck; Schwinn, not shwin; Campagnolo, not Campagnola; and Shimano - not shmano, shimono, or shamano)
25) Include the size of the bicycle! Measured from the center of the cranks (the big sprocket) to the top of the seat tube (before the silver or black post that holds the seat [saddle].) It needs to be in either inches or centimeters. Both if you are nice.
26) NEXT, Magna, Huffy, Roadmaster, and Murray are NOT highly-respected brands. Get over it.
-Kurt

I think his definition of the words good and fine are radically different from everyone else's.

Amusingly enough, we have a GMC Denali "road bike" in the shop right now. The one in the ad actually has STIs, so it probably sold for $300 or so. The one in our shop came with Grip-Shift. Of course, it therefore had/has the 2-piece handlebar - made of steel, of course.

The GMC Denali in the shop has:
Denali frame minus stickers
MicroShift brifters in place of the grip shift. (purchased from us - stolen from a new Fuji Newest 3.0)
[original 2-piece handlebar as well. the guy made shims so that the MicroShift would fit on the tiny diameter bar. In our defense, we didn't know what bike he had when we sold him the brifters. He just said he wanted some, and that his shifters currently were "on the stem".]

stock, horrible brake calipers
stock, 4.5 pound steel/cast iron crankset
Shimano Sora front derailleur (purchased from us)
Campy Centaur rear derailleur (NOT purchased from us)
New wheelset (in progress) :: Sun rims, one 32 hole one 36 hole, found in the storeroom of his current employer (Dick's). Front hub is a Shimano 2200. Rear is the horrible, steel-bodied hunk of crap the bike came with.

So, to summarize.... He has 8 speed shifters, 9 speed front derailleur, 10 speed (Campy) rear derailleur, and a 7 speed freewheel. And a 7 speed chain. Needless to say, I can't get the shifting to work very well. There are also MTB (long) cartridge brake pads installed on the rear caliper, and he has clipless pedals to install on the bike once he buys some shoes. Yes, I've explained that the bike isn't worth upgrading, that Campy and Shimano don't play well together even when they're the same level/era/"speed", and that he would be better off buying a new road bike. He says he has to keep this one until autumn, and then it will go on the trainer and he'll buy a new bike. That doesn't answer my "Why spend money on it?" question, though.

Alright, if it wasn't ridden nearly a mile already, and if it was stored on any other floor but the first . . .

https://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/bik/1195329615.html

Seen this ad about 3 months in a row. How can you ride a bike less than one mile?

You're really behind the times, aren't you? Campy is preparing to release their 10 speed front crank this autumn, giving one a theoretical range of 110 gears to choose from. They fit because they use Campy's proprietary "Black Hole" drive system.

Is that the one that comes with the variable traction tires and subjective gravity generator?

A poor choice in wording for the title? Maybe leave the color in the ad itself...

"How can you ride a bike less than one mile?"

It's easy. You ride it however far you feel like riding it, then look at it and ask, "Does that look like it's been ridden more than a mile?" If the answer is no, then you say "ridden only a mile!" in your ad. It's not like it has an odometer like a car.

Stolen Peugeot Recovered Black/Dark Gray w/ Chrome Fork - $1 (Atlanta )

My friend calls me saying he had seen a guy on my bike that was stolen and the guy just looked like it didn't belong to him. So
he took the bike from the guy and since it had a flat he didn't put up much of a fight. Long story short it is not my bike but i thought
it could have been mine and parts had been switched. It's close but not mine. This is a mid 80's Peugeot with the trademark color patter
of Peugeots from those years. If this is your bike or you know who it belongs to then they should be able to identify the Crank maker, chain ring size,
and if this is fixed or single speed. If you can tell these specs then i'll know this is your bike. Contact me at 404-XXX-XXXX and i will get this sweet
ride back to its rightful owner.
