First pix of Mother and Son on their maiden voyage on our new '09 Lambo. Sorry for the poor pix. I didn't think of it until we were underway and all I had was my cell phone camera. I was trailing on my Moto carbon "half bike." They put the hammer down and hit 26 mph on the flats. Almost gave me a run for my money! The whole family out for a bike ride. Haven't done that in quite a while.

The wife and I have put about 30 miles on it since the final build out on Sunday (8/1) Since she is recovering from foot surgery we're keeping the rides short, 7 - 8 mi. But she has already said she wants to join us on a Sat AM club ride in a few weeks. That will be neat.

Last weekend riding with the Akron Bike Club on the Roscoe Ramble. A round trip tour of old canal towns starting in Canal Fulton and ending at Roscoe Village in Coshocton Ohio. Scenic rolling hills and farms in Holmes and Coshocton Counties.

We are about to take offfor our 4 day, 250 mile trip in Northern Michigan. Our first self supported (except food) tour on our tandem. We decided last minute to buy a Bob trailer (for running errands around town) and this was our first trip on the tandem with the Bob trailer. It worked out pretty well. Northern Michigan is very pretty, but maybe a bit too rural for us.

Finally got to take a ride on the Lambo with my 6 yr old grandson which he has named "Jazz" after the Transformers character. Notice that I had to build a foot rest on a bottle holder since, even with a small road seat all the way down, his feet just meet the center of the crank. Rather than spending $250 or more on a Kid Stoker kit, we'll just use this platform foot rest. He wants to pedal, but he'll just have to wait.

This is more than just the average picture of grandpa and grandson. Tyler, after 5 months, just finished his last session of chemo, and diagnostic test found him to be cancer free! He was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, a rare and deadly childhood cancer, in mid March. He has endured six weeks of chemo over these past 5 months, and will soon undergo another procedure to replace his bone marrow which will require 3 to 8 weeks at Miami Children's hospital in isolation. These intervening days are precious.

Tyler is, like our daughter, quite creative. He enjoys superheros and gave all of his care givers a superhero name. He named my yellow and black road bike "Bumblebee" after the Transformers character of the same name. When I told him about the tandem, he named it when he saw the picture. He kept asking about riding it all though his hospital stay, so today's ride was special.

In January when he goes back to school after the bone marrow transplant, I'll be picking him up several times a week. I used to pick him up with the hybrid bike in a child seat. Now I'll be using the Lambo. I can't wait.

That's awesome, bob! What a cool thing to do, take him for a bike ride and then plan to pick him up on the tandem. I give this because it's so heartwarming.

Well we bought a DaVinci and will be riding up Diablo on Sunday. OK, I'm probably boring everyone...

We did the so called "Berkeley Hills Death Ride" today. Basically all the most ridiculously steep hills in and around Berkeley strung together in a suffer-fest extravaganza.

Here is a pic... Strange... the timing chain is not that slack on the flats, nor is it now after the ride. It has well under 1" of deflection. Is this caused by rider power differences?

You haven't been married very long, have you? I would never suggest that as a possible cause. Instead, consider boom tube flex. See if you can find a photo with you both out of the saddle, but with the other pedal forward.

Hey, Marco, I can't account for the differential in power outputs between stoker and captain, but I can attest to the advantages of riding OOP after 2+ years of IP. We no longer break chains, spokes, cause the bike to flex with agonizing creaks, etc. In fact, we have more power output more consistently than we did when we rode IP.

Standing together takes more finesse...for me, it feels like dancing with someone who's slightly off the beat. When we stood IP, that was smooth, and easier. OOP takes some fine-tuning but the feeling of having power throughout the pedal stroke is amazing.

Disclaimer: We've been married maybe more years than you two are old. YMMV.

Recent photo shot during the annual Portland Bridge Pedal where you ride with over 18,000 of your "closest friends" over and across all the bridges throughout Portland Oregon. This shot is on top of Portland's highest bridge, The Fremont, which is a 10 lane double decker.
