Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mrs BD and I buy separate peanut butters because I still prefer Jif or Skippy and she’s just bougie.

There's something about the mouthfeel that I don't like, anymore. That and it tends to be too sweet for my tastes.

Wife and daughter, familiar with both, prefer the emulsified axle grease stuff. I've been a natural man since I first encountered it in college.

Mrs. GeneJockey and I agree on natural PB, smooth. The jar has to be small enough to get your standard knife into to stir, but large enough that you're not always having to stir up a new jar.

I probably wouldn't even try. I'd likely stroke out trying to keep up with her based on how you've described her.

That's what I meant but being late to the party (out riding), you beat me to it.

Reminded me of a three day ride in my area that started at the factory where Bit-O-Honey is made amongst other candies. At every food stop, they would have boxes and boxes of candy that you could just grab by the handful. I ate so many Bit-O-Honey one year that I got sick. Haven't had any since and that was in the early '90s.

Natural peanut butter is one of those items that the Federal government gives away to institutions. I first encountered it at my high school. We would get truck loads of it along with government rice, raisins, powdered milk, cheese (remember that?), etc.

Ew. Never liked Bit-O-Honey (don't really like candy, unless it's chocolate), but I do like honey, 'specially in my peanut butter.

Bit-Too-Much-O-Honey, you might say.

She's a small compact dynamo. I dropped her today, though... on a long downhill.

According to Wikipedia, they tried making a chocolate covered Bit-O-Honey at one time.

After failing Workout #1 (VO2max Over/Unders) of Zwift Academy twice, I took a bit of a break from it. That, and just not feeling it in the legs. I had based my FTP on Ramp testing, which can apparently overestimate FTP. I also realized I'd set the FTP on Zwift at 260, even though I'd only gotten 256 on the Ramp test. SO I dropped that to 249 (because I was working a slider and couldn't get 250). Last night I tried it again, this time with the Over/Under of 285w/235w instead of 300w/245w, and although it was hard, I finished it!

Now I'm wondering - did I overestimate my FTP originally? Or am I just a wimp? I dunno. But I think I'll do the rest of the workouts with this setting. Later I can try them at maybe 255.

I can't get mine on the street as she's scared to death of the cars. Can't say that I blame her as you can't ride more than a half mile from our house without having to deal with heavily traveled roads with speed limits of 50 to 70 mph. #congestedsuburbanlife

It be interesting to see what she could do on the hills (them being what they are) as she's much lighter than me and has a lighter bike.

The two "cyclists we hate" that resonated with me were 'no lights at night' and 'runs red lights'. Women passing me? Par for the course, around here. National champions and all. One day, I was doing a climb on the ocean side of the Santa Cruz Mountains, and ended up riding with a woman in full team regalia. We did the 2 mile climb together the whole way, chatting occasionally. We never introduced ourselves, but I stole a peek at the name on her top tube.

Shari Kain. National Cyclocross champion, among other things.

I think it was a recovery day for her. Or she was coming back from an injury, or something, because there's NO WAY I could keep up with her otherwise.
