I've seen those seatposts before. I found one in 25.8 once, and it was all that was available. Very adjustable, but a PITA nonetheless.

What I read is that Ocaņa used it on some mountain stages. I can see why, for it's very light. But it is also VERY flexible, so how he got down those same mountains at any speed is beyond me.

I remember Joop Zoetemelk changing to a lighter bike just before beginning the final climb in a stage v Impe won in the Pyrenees in 1976.
Zoetemelk was chasing v Impe and Ocana at that climb so perhaps more riders used similar exeptional light bikes for final climbs in this period.
