Team camp was fun! First time doing it. Went as close to 100% as I could up Montezuma, climbed it in just over 56 minutes @ 271w, just over 1100 VAM. Goal was to get under an hour, so I was pretty happy with that, and I think that's the closest I've ever come to my 20 minute power for an hour, so it seems like my aerobic engine is finally catching up. One of the recently upgraded 3's is a big TT powerhouse and was right on me up until the last 15 mins or so, but he averaged 380w
@TMonk was going pretty well, and the whole team is just looking super strong right now. Valley of the Sun should be fun

All but one of the cat 1's & 2's beat me up the climb... one of them finished in 48.5'... *sigh* Doubtful I'll ever climb that well.

Lots of vo2max work for me lately. Dirty 30/30's, 5x5's, and 4x8's mostly. Yesterday was 4x8'. First was the best one so far this season @ ~114%, about 25w over my last 20 minute test, second and third sucked at ~109%, last one was with a longer rest and on a flat road instead of a hill, ~111%.

Ugh, I went down on a sprint. No idea what happened! Either I unclipped or the chain came off. Other than losing a ton of skin I'm okay. The bike I'm not too sure.

My rearview camera was going at the time and I can see my shadow go down, followed by animal noises and swearing.

Here's the segment:
https://www.strava.com/segments/639998

I'm roughly 145 lbs. I just don't think I'm naturally slow-twitchy enough to have that sort of aerobic power. I'm sure I still have room to close the gap a bit, but according to the calculators I've checked I'd need to push an extra 40-50w to get that sort of time.

Oh no! Glad you're mostly ok! Could have been a lot worse, a teammate of ours broke his collarbone when his chain snapped mid sprint last year.

Heal up quick and Tegaderm up

Ugh, glad that only skin was broken! The bike's cheaper to fix than you are.

90 minutes of aerobic (read, recovery) work today. After the vo2 stuff yesterday, doubtful I'll be able to do the quality work I'm scheduled for tomorrow. We'll see. It's supposed to snow tonight, so I might bail on a hard bike ride to ski after work.

Missing out on the first of my team's camp due to work this weekend. Boo.. Overtime.. I didn't want to ride outside in shorts anyways...

Thanks Chuck, @wktmeow

Not too sure about that that, when I punctured my lung it was $30 in copays (50k actual).

I'll just leave this here. I'm glad it happened solo and not in a group.

Thanks, it was all on the outer, what you were probably looking at was my biceps.

Pretty sure when I downshifted it didn't grab the cog I shifted into and the chain slid; its out of tune and has slid slightly in the past, so under 700 watts slightly = a lot.

on both of my past two rides I nearly crashed just doing everyday ****. In a sprint I somehow bottomed out the pedal stroke hard enough to ollie my rear wheel like a foot off the ground. Then the next day riding in wool gloves my hand just slipped off the tops on a normal bump.

it's going around...

have 90mins z2 on the docket for today, I'm at -32 tsb, but I feel fresher today than on Monday when I was on my rest day with the same tsb.

also weighed 165 this morning, down from like 174 in the past month. Just 10lbs left to get back to my goal weight of 70kg, although my zwift avatar is still at 155, but it's ok because I haven't raced in a long time lol.

I've almost crashed that way several times when I had my thumb on top of the tops. I now remind myself all the time that the thumb goes below the bar when riding the tops - much safer.

yeah, I've ridden like 100,000+ miles pretty safely. Was just a random weird thing, and that it happened a day after the other thing made it stand out.

Skied some shallow powder today after work. Good and soft, but not deep. Came home and hopped on zwift for a race instead of doing my microburst workout. Averaged higher power for the hour race than my ftp was 12 weeks ago.

Also, I got beat by someone on zpower in the wrong category (disqualified). The guy that chased his move and managed to hold 5W/ KG (oh, power from a smart trainer..) on a heart rate of 145 or something. And someone who beat me in the final sprint in the last couple meters because they had one of the aero powerups and I launched from 300m out.

I'm glad zwift isn't real life and I get good training out of it. because if there was consequence in these events I would be pissed. None the less, I hit my best hour power of all time, and also my best 5 minute power of all time in the last 5 minutes of the race. Coming into form is fun.

First real ride since the crash two weeks ago.

Everything feels fine, but the index finger (and now middle finger too) feel a little weak and painful.

It feels like I can't grip the bars 100% when I sprint. But I cracked 1100 watts so I guess it didn't matter that much.

I probably shouldn't race tomorrow, but **** it. Can't resist!

I guess Ill do Cal Aggie tomorrow. After being super tired on Tuesdays ride I took a few days easy and am up to -5 TSB but still should be +4 CTL after sunday if I do a big ride that day.

Cal Aggie is a fun race. I still drink beer out of the pint glass I won at the race on my first cat 4 win a few years ago. I don't have any VO2 fitness right now but am rested so should be able to help out a bit if the field is similar in early season fitness to last year.

Went out for an easy ride. Every time I hit a bump I had a dull pain in my upper neck, and had to turn back after a mile.

Looks like I'm stuck on the trainer for a few days and if its not better, I'll get it checked out. The only time I feel pain is during the bumps, so I expect its muscle related...or hope.

Easy hour when I got up this morning and had planned to ski (alpine) decently hard this afternoon. First run after making my way down the tricky stuff, I slide out on some ice on the shallowest groomer and tweak my knee. Did a few more runs but knee was not feeling good so I packed it up and headed home. Took a tylenol and I'm laid out on the couch typing this. No pain right now even standing and stretching so I don't think I damaged anything, but just want to play it safe.

Think it's time to tune up my skis. Crashed a few times on ice yesterday too. Think the edges might be a bit dull. So much work. At least with a bike, I can just leave it on the trainer and put a fwe drops of lube into place, like, once a month.

Yesterday did 57 mins with a few 30 sec efforts up a hill... 231 average, 349 np, 109 TSS.
Today, did 2 hours 32 mins steady, 219 average, 222 np, 118 TSS.

The extra 1.5 hours for a whopping whole 9 extra tss felt a lot more mentally and physically taxing. Slow riding is so boring.

Yep. NP buster.

Normalized power (and so, TSS) doesn't work if you do a lot of (or even just 5-6) really hard, short efforts.

Breathing issue I've been dealing with off and on since March flared up after my rest week, so I'm at ~2wks of laying low with a couple of tempo rides. The plus side is this time the doctors gave me antibiotics along with an inhaler and it actually seems to be making a difference, like to the point where my voice is changing as my chest clears up. So much for my 4wk block, but at least it's January!
