Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just get a repair kit soon.

This is also on my to-do list.

On your wheel it will be crowded in there when you are trying to pump it up. On 36 spoke wheels that used to make a big difference. On a 20 spoke wheel where there is more separation between the spokes, it won't make as much difference.

Fair enough. Thing is, what are the options now? Take it back to him? If he didn't know how to do it properly the first time he won't do it properly the second time either. I could also just go to someone else and have them redo it, but then I'd have to pay again. I guess I'm left with binning them or riding them as they are.

All kidding aside, I would be happy to fix them for you. Only cost would be the round trip shipping.

But if you can meet with the builder in person, there is no reason you can't show them what's wrong. It isn't that hard to fix. Well you have to take the whole wheel apart and redo it, but it ain't rocket surgery.

That's why I like those Bitex Taiwanese hubs. No logo. Easy-peasy. Actually if you were doing it every day, you could learn the "formula" for getting the logo line up right, but once or twice a year and it is to hard to remember...when you're old that is.

I'm sure Safelite does a good job and is very convenient, but they are never the vendor that my insurance, Amica, chooses. I suspect Amica doesn't want to pay for all that national advertising.

Ugh - when the sweet taste of freedom sours in your mouth.

The wife had put a play date on the calendar for tomorrow, which is why I was figuring that it'd be a good day for a 3-5 hour ride. I have since found out that the play date is at our place - not a huge deal, but it'll probably mean extra prep, including making sure that the dog is someplace where she can't be bothered by the kids, which will likely mean I'll have to carry her upstairs (the hips/legs aren't getting up the stairs well in her old age).

...and now I've heard that the play date has expanded to include the high-maintenance cousins. You all have at least one set of cousins like that, right? The ones that bounce off the walls and get in to stuff? I don't know where he lands on the scale, but one of the kids has Asperger's and has a hard time understanding/accepting being told "no." I once caught him pulling a grille cover off of one of my speakers, and readying a poking finger for one of the tweeters. Time to batten down the hatches

The crazy part is that the insured was a neurologist with an exclusive address in the wealthiest county in PA. Why take a risk like that for $800 and change? Not all that longer after the incident the hospital where the guy worked folded. Maybe he was having cash flow problems.

Just because he lived there didn't mean he could afford to live there.

That is a nasty story. Hard to explain foolishness like that. Heck, when I first moved into my office with my new employer (at the beginning of a 29 year run), I learned the previous occupant had been walked out the door for cheating the company on travel expenses. He was cashing international business class tickets for coach and pocketing the difference. So go figure.

But they are generally considered a good, service oriented, low cost insurer. We have been with them for years with no complaints.
