A good ride on 20+ yo American CF. with some upgrades along the way. One owner, forever.
Local fire + emergency services
Friendly rams, fields mostly dry
Lake Boren is really more of a big duck pond, but with nice viewing spots.

After, a 12/16 full rotor cuff repair, this was a complete frame up build! And my first 15 miles today around Gettysburg, has me very blessed and happy!

@road195 - yes, yes, yes an absolute beauty. Looking at the wheel clearances and frame angles = I take it for a solid racer with some Italian comfort built in.
only suggestion = smaller saddle pack

Thanks for your reply, I am going to put a Acorn grey waxed bag on. With age comes cheater glasses and phone, and a tube it adds up. I just love the simplicity of shifting and just peddling along. I just sold all my 11 speed stuff, it looks like there’s no going back. I have a modern 10 speed. The building is fun!

L’RoY today (longest ride of the year) at, sadly, 37 miles. Sunny with a promise of 60 degrees, but I was in this strange circular wind pattern rotating in the opposite direction of my ride so that I had a stiff, icy cold headwind almost the entire ride. I rode plastic today (with classic inspired paint job!) as I needed every edge I could get. It was nice to get out on the open roads.

A Somber Day
Yesterday I rode my off-topic mountain bike on the usual Sunday ride. Our little group of friends (The Forest Knolls Freewheelers) has been riding together for 30 years now. Six years ago one of our members, a Frenchman with a passion for trail maintenance and endurance racing, died of a heart attack on the Sunday ride. We stopped yesterday on the climb where he died to pay our respects, and were once again pleasantly surprised that the wreath that we had hung in a Bay tree six years ago was still there.

Really nice weather today took a short ride on the bike trail along HWY 9 towards Alana. Only got about half way to Alama still a lot of snow mud and ice on the trail it will probably take another week or two for the trail to get clear.

Rode the central portion of the Fairfax Cross County Trail, 31 miles from door to door. First time on the trail since my accident at the end of July, also first time on the Davidson since surgery. Lovely day! Mardi Gras!
These little snowdrop guys were all over the place- first sign of Spring!

GRAVEL GRINDING!
MFG (My Friend Gary) and I rode 47 miles on hilly VA gravel yesterday as preparation for Eroica. I used the '83 Davidson (triple, 38's) and he used his new Open gravel bike. I modified the 78 Davidson (triple, 32's) for him to ride at Eroica but he wanted to ride/show off his new Open, so there you have it.
The whole ride looked like this, just a gorgeous day
Hooligans
What one rides at Eroica
What one shows off.

Just my normal out-n-back 32 miles on the New River Trail.
Had a run-in with this guy - a first for me. Btw, the trail's about 8' wide here:
Just before encountering him, a jackrabbit streaked across the path in front of me, so my attention was diverted. I didn't notice the snake until I was almost upon it - and for whatever reason, my brain processed it as a discarded tie-down strap! So I passed it to the left, as if I were going around a trail user - only to realize what it really was as I went past (and yeah, I passed on the side where his head was). Yikes! Then again, I think they can only really strike a given distance when they're coiled up, but still. Took a few pics once I stopped and turned around, but as I got closer he gave a couple polite-but-firm rattles, as if to say: "note my triangular head and puffy cheeks - I could really do a number on you if you invade my space, dude!". I watched him slowly slink off into the wash foliage, then went back to the business of the day.
Me at the turnaround point; it's getting hotter 'round these here parts, hence the new haircut:

I have a pic somewhere of a timber rattler warming himself on the Blue Ridge Parkway a few years ago but it’s a lot blurrier because there was no way I was getting that close!
Forgot to post yesterday as I got a quick ride in before my night shift. Nice day yesterday but the cold is coming back. Rode the Basso which was tapped to be my 2020 Eroica bike and still mulling over giving it a second chance.

Very cool snake pics, guys. We've got Timber rattlers here in PA, but I've never seen one. Saw plenty of Garters, Eastern Rat snakes, a Copperhead or two, and various water snakes.
Thanks for sharing!

You're not kidding - that's a beautiful looking snake
I'd always be a bit concerned riding that singletrack after seeing that; I'd be constantly wondering about coming up on one by the trail edge and startling it into striking. I remember another member posting a pic of one coiled up beside a dirt trail - could hardly see it. Brrrr!
Believe me, I'm paying lots of attention to the edges of my current local trail now I know these big boys are around.
