for comparison-
I have a 63cm(64, technically) Tange 1 frame and fork that was made at the same location as some ironman frames in '89. Same geometry, but internal brake routing and longer lug lines is the differences compared to an ironman.
just frame and fork comes to 2210g frame and 790g fork. So right at 3000g which is 6.61#.
An Ultegra threaded headset is 110g, so to compare apples with the other frames, its 3110g which is 6.85#
As another point of reference, I built a 65cm frame and fork with Columbus Zona tubing this past winter that weighs 2850g which is 6.28#.
what's surprising is the built weights of the bikes in the comparison test a few pages earlier in this thread. The Schwinn Tempo is lighter than an Ironman and it has such a long wheelbase and the Shogun Samurai was so light overall and has such a short wheelbase.

The Prestige was made with Prestige tubing, at least in '85, when it had the older style font. It was an elegant, light racing bike with 2x6 Dura Ace (indexed). I believe the '89 did have a unicrown fork, very much like the PDG Paramount Series forks that came later.
I've seen the '89's with the fade scheme, don't recall the tubing decals, but I'd guess Prestige tubing, as the earlier models. One would surmise, perhaps, that they were DA-equipped, to elevate them a level about the extremely capable Ironmen of that model year.
As far as I know, the Prestige and Ironman Carbon were the only DA-equipped bikes, and the Prestige the only model with Prestige tubing.
'85-'89 were just hugely competitive years for all the brands. If you have a pic, post it, and I can give you more info.

Of 91 bikes listed, the Ironman Expert was 18th cheapest. The Lemans RS was 6th cheapest. A couple models were 6x the Ironman price, notably the DeRosa Professional and the Merckx Corsa Extra. I've had all 3. Blindfolded, with 2x9 DA and A23 wheels, I doubt anyone here can tell the difference. And the '87 Expert came with 105 indexed. The Italians were foundering on Syncro or Record. Better hubs, worse shifting.
Note this bike looks like it's running Dura Ace and I'm thinking that fork is Prestige. The saddle is a Vetta Moser (used in the I986 Ironman and for Moser's Hour run). Also note those are tubular tires, so I doubt they are the OEM wheels. While the frame is off the rack, I think everything else is either a change or an upgrade.

The photo I was talking about could be on one of the other random IM threads. The rider was either Pigg or Scott. The rider was moving right to left on a purple or grey, maybe marble bike. People were telling stories about the rider. I think it was Pigg. Talking about how Scott was rumored to ride custom bikes. It was discussed how either Scott or Pigg had bikes stored around the country in case something happened to one of them. Then the discussion focused on the different shape of the fork crown and the Prestige sticker on it.

The pic Seypat is referrong yo is one i took off TV. Its pretty blurry but its the '88 yellow fade master color scheme.
Ive seen pics and or video of mike pigg competing on several different Ironman. Hard rock, yellow fade , Carbon and blue marble fade. Actual racing not promo ad pics. Later mike pigg was sponsored by trek so definitely a possibility that was one of his bikes. Notice that bike doesnt have the original bars Pigg had aero bars on all his. So it stands to reason someone would put other bars on it. One more thing to note Pigg was from arcadia california.

Getting closer. This is not the photo either. Check out the Blue/white bike in texaspandj's post 784(pg 32). That looks like a prestige sticker on that fork as well.

It appears the yellow bike in question doesn't have a pump peg either, hmm.

Pages 70/71 are loaded with discussion/info about the Prestiges.
Since we are talking about Prestiges, time to post the sweetness that is the 85/86 Prestige. Anthracite/silver or Lavender/silver, so pretty!

Someone posted an 89 Prestige in Boston on the "looking for" thread. $300.

Here's a pic of the Centurion Prestige in Boston. Very Nice. Too bad it's a 56cm. I might take a stab at it if it were a 54cm.

Doh! Forgot to put the craigslist ad link. Boy it looks like my '89. The prestige tubing is lighter than the Tange 1 on mine though. https://boston.craigslist.org/sob/bi...719978243.html

I threw away a set of those bars last week.
That sure looks like the '85 Prestige fork on that.... Definitely not the '89 Unicrown….
