A funny thing happens with Delta cleats sometimes. The part of the cleat that pushes the latching mechanism back to unclip can wear out. You'd never notice until you go to clip out and you can't.

I've been dropping the chain on my eTap bike during shifts. Last couple rides. I woke early today to work on it, before the ride.lubed the chain, made adjustments. I thought maybe the chain was too long, so I shortened it one set of links. It's odd, on the large large it comes out .5 a link big, so I had to add 3 links. So it's tighter, but still ok. Still didn't want to shift properly. Thought maybe I had bent the hanger somehow. Dug out the spare I've had Squirreled away, figured I'd try swapping it out. Went to remove the rear wheel....friken quick release was loose. Not even snug.....? I remember cleaning it after the 100 miler last weekend.....oooppsy...

When I inspect my cleats for wear, I focus on the thickness at both the front and back of the part of cleat that engages. It usually wears evenly, but sometimes the front gets too thin, sometimes the rear. I typically replace when it’s down to about 2mm thick as that’s when I think it risks breaking.

Today's ride started out with me being driven to distraction by a *click* from the seatpost (I think) on every pedal stroke. It was so annoying that I almost turned right the hell around to swap the Canyon for the Litespeed. But I didn't. About 12 miles in, there's a short little ramp where I always get out of the saddle, and when I sat back down - no click. It didn't return the rest of the ride. Weird.
I was originally planning to climb Old La Honda, and then descent the West side, which is a sparsely traveled, twisty country road with beautiful vistas all the way to the ocean. But I could see the fog, sitting at the top of the ridge, all the way down the spine of the Santa Cruz Mountain. I've ridden up into the fog before. You'd think it would be nice and cooling, but no. You get to the top soaked with sweat that wouldn't evaporate, and it's about 50 degrees, and you chill yourself to the bone on any downhill bits. I'm too old for that ****.
So I made up in distance what I didn't do in elevation, and went for a longer ride, all the way down to Sunnyvale. On the way, a lady in a BMW SUV tried to make me part of her fender. I pulled out ahead of her at a light, then she pulls alongside me and starts taking the onramp onto 280! Did she think I was gonna ride on the freeway? Jesus!
On this route, once I get to Sunnyvale, there's about 8.5 miles of mostly straight road, Foothill Blvd, with a wide bike lane and not very frequent crossroads, all with stop lights. I got down in Aero Hoods and drilled it. After about 5 miles, I looked back and I had acquired a hanger-on. At 6 miles, he thanked me for the pull and took the lead. I tried to stay on his wheel, but I'd been riding at Tempo when I was pulling him, and when I was trying to hold his wheel I was going Sub-Threshold. So I said Bye-bye and let him go.
Apart from that, it was a beautiful day to ride, though the last 10 miles were a little sketchy because of gusty head/cross/tailwinds, where I'd be ripping along at a really good pace with a tailwind and suddenly is was a crosswind that tried to blow my bike out from under me. Imagine how much fun that was, on this one descent where I can easily reach almost 40 mph! Visions of being blown into oncoming traffic!
