Agreed that it is way earlier than 1970. The three piece Tippo front hub and round front forks indicate to me that you are correct in the assessment but LA is way to far for me to jump on this one. Smiles, MH

It always amazes me how people in my area dig lesser bikes than this out of a storage unit and put them out there for upwards of $375.

I mean it is probably for the best or I would be dropping 20 dollar bills on bike boomers all over NEOK and running out of pace in the garage.

Alpine Grand Record Road Bike - $200 (East Hampton, CT)

Early to mid 1990's Alpine Grand Record with a 14 speed Shimano 105 Groupset. I think it is a 56mm frame. The seat tube measures 22" from center of bottom bracket to center of top tube. Distance from the top of the top tube to the ground (standover height?) is about 32.75 inches. I purchased it last summer for myself but find I am more comfortable on a larger frame. It has a Chrome Moly frame and fork and was apparently sold originally by Nashbar. Has brand new brake cables & housings and new black handlebar tape. Everything works as it should.

Shimano 105 Groupset including:
Brake levers & Dual pivot brake calipers
Front & Rear Derailleurs
Down tube shifters
Crankset
Pedals with toe clips and straps
Hubs

Rims are Mavic MA-40

Really digging the lug-lining/pin-striping on this white frame: since I'm no Paramount student was this a repaint (but preserving that seat panel) or original paint?
If a re-paint I'd bet the striping done by one of the many hot-rod (Kustom Kar) shops all over greater LA region, BUT also think there were some very talented stripe-rs at work in the Schwinn shop BITD (and they were mainly women, correct?).
Please note I took care to write stripe-rs, NOT strippers!

Not to mention there's usually a significant "buyer's premium" that you always have to factor in. I've won a couple of EJ's auctions, and in both cases, paid almost as much for shipping as for the items themselves. Fortunately they were for lots that went for stoopid cheap, so I still fared well.

Or, if it's a barrel-key cylinder, whip out your old Bic pen. I've liberated a few U-locks -- yes, of bikes I purchased -- using that method.

i remember sitting in my friends apartment in NYC when a story came on the news that bike thieves were using bic pens to open expensive bike locks and then, proceeded to show how it was done. My buddy whipped out a Bic pen and hit it with a lighter and had his $100 lock open before the story was over. We looked at each other and both said there are going to be a lot of bikes stolen in the next week

Striping is likely original if this is a 67, even with the newer style DT livery.

I had four such locks at the time, and managed to open two of them. The day the story broke here, I was on my way home from an evening ride when a guy on the sidewalk literally flagged me down. Reporter for the local (then) daily, doing his own story on the subject, just picked me at random to ask about it.

Kryptonite deserves kudos, they eventually replaced all four for free.

That's been posted three or four times in the last week. I agree with the 1987 assignment.

A friend of mine lives near there and has offered to help. I need it the way I need mumps, but you-allze might be pushing me over the edge. Only real issue is the kickstand.. if that's crushed the chaninstays, that would be.. awkward. Can't tell from the pictures.

Why is it still there? Well, there's this:

This is twelve hour later, after we cleared our driveway. Record snowfall of > 13 inches in one day.
I regretted riding that day, because the snow was like sand, and where it was compacted by cars, it was impossible to ride, at least for me. Thankfully campus snow removal is great, and a lot of people had their sidewalks cleared.

I'll see what my friend thinks about the business hours.
The peer pressure is getting to me. Could be a great bike for an IGH conversion and 700c.
