Regardless, it is very, very cool. Track dropouts for the 3 speed, great chain guard, wonderful lugs and fork crown. Needs some tlc (a proper saddle for starters, plus a proper set of mudguards), but looks pretty nice as is -- if i were even remotely local this one would be very hard to resist, even if my DW doesn't think she needs another bike!
Agreed on most of this, lots of gray, unknown, we'll have to wait and see going on here.

Fork crown, HT "keyhole" lugs and DT configuration odd/unusual to me.

We desperately need the S/N.

I think that's a Wastyn-era Paramount Tourist that was refinished at some point in the 1970's.

Someone ought to grab that thing. Quick.

Kurt,
Agreed that it is way earlier than 1970. The three piece Tippo front hub and round front forks indicate to me that you are correct in the assessment but LA is way to far for me to jump on this one. Smiles, MH

If I am decoding the serial number correctly - that makes this the 2nd bike made in April of 1967 - D=april 7=1967 02=2nd bike?

These two sets of interesting (to me) toe clips popped up on one of my eBay searches. The first appear to be handmade. Any idea what the initials "PI" might mean?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/363717214205

From a different seller in the same French town (Mérignac, France - seems a little too coincidental to be an actual coincidence), these reproductions of early 1900s toe clips are the cat's pajamas:

Vintage Raleigh Racing Bike - $20Raleigh Super Course MK II,
It always amazes me how people in my area dig lesser bikes than this out of a storage unit and put them out there for upwards of $375.

I mean it is probably for the best or I would be dropping 20 dollar bills on bike boomers all over NEOK and running out of pace in the garage.

Nice looking bike for only $200 and just posted 38 minutes ago. I think those are just scuffs on the top tube - see the sticker area.

https://hartford.craigslist.org/bik/...442445673.html

Alpine Grand Record Road Bike - $200 (East Hampton, CT)

Early to mid 1990's Alpine Grand Record with a 14 speed Shimano 105 Groupset. I think it is a 56mm frame. The seat tube measures 22" from center of bottom bracket to center of top tube. Distance from the top of the top tube to the ground (standover height?) is about 32.75 inches. I purchased it last summer for myself but find I am more comfortable on a larger frame. It has a Chrome Moly frame and fork and was apparently sold originally by Nashbar. Has brand new brake cables & housings and new black handlebar tape. Everything works as it should.

Shimano 105 Groupset including:
Brake levers & Dual pivot brake calipers
Front & Rear Derailleurs
Down tube shifters
Crankset
Pedals with toe clips and straps
Hubs

Rims are Mavic MA-40
Nitto B-115 handlebars & Nitto stem

Nights and weekends in East Hampton/Glastonbury, weekdays in Wallingford.

$200.00 or best offer, cash only - Include a phone number with your response

Really digging the lug-lining/pin-striping on this white frame: since I'm no Paramount student was this a repaint (but preserving that seat panel) or original paint?
If a re-paint I'd bet the striping done by one of the many hot-rod (Kustom Kar) shops all over greater LA region, BUT also think there were some very talented stripe-rs at work in the Schwinn shop BITD (and they were mainly women, correct?).
Please note I took care to write stripe-rs, NOT strippers!

Not to mention there's usually a significant "buyer's premium" that you always have to factor in. I've won a couple of EJ's auctions, and in both cases, paid almost as much for shipping as for the items themselves. Fortunately they were for lots that went for stoopid cheap, so I still fared well.

Speaking of non-eBay auctions, any doc collectors in the house may be interested in this -- https://www.auctionzip.com/auction-l...gs_2244233B38/ -- I *THINK* the Raleigh catalog in the foreground is on that one site that has a collection of them, but someone may want it in the flesh. Oh and that reminds me, I think I spy a Bikecology girl behind the Raleigh catalog. Once again, factor in the buyer's premium.

.
i remember sitting in my friends apartment in NYC when a story came on the news that bike thieves were using bic pens to open expensive bike locks and then, proceeded to show how it was done. My buddy whipped out a Bic pen and hit it with a lighter and had his $100 lock open before the story was over. We looked at each other and both said there are going to be a lot of bikes stolen in the next week

Striping is likely original if this is a 67, even with the newer style DT livery.

I had four such locks at the time, and managed to open two of them. The day the story broke here, I was on my way home from an evening ride when a guy on the sidewalk literally flagged me down. Reporter for the local (then) daily, doing his own story on the subject, just picked me at random to ask about it.

Kryptonite deserves kudos, they eventually replaced all four for free.

Regarding the Trek 520(?) from Goodwill in Traverse City, MI

[QUOTE=madpogue;22400908]Cantis, maybe '87? In any event, at that price, why is it not long gone?

That's been posted three or four times in the last week. I agree with the 1987 assignment.

A friend of mine lives near there and has offered to help. I need it the way I need mumps, but you-allze might be pushing me over the edge. Only real issue is the kickstand.. if that's crushed the chaninstays, that would be.. awkward. Can't tell from the pictures.

Why is it still there? Well, there's this:

>> Our business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 4:00PM. We are closed on weekends and major holidays.
..which makes it a little hard to do business if you're working for a living.

Also it's Northern Michigan. Not exactly cycling country this time of year.
This was Wed morning on my way to work, when the snow was just starting....

Say hello to Sparty. Go Green! And, on that day, definitely Go White!

This is twelve hour later, after we cleared our driveway. Record snowfall of > 13 inches in one day.
I regretted riding that day, because the snow was like sand, and where it was compacted by cars, it was impossible to ride, at least for me. Thankfully campus snow removal is great, and a lot of people had their sidewalks cleared.

I'll see what my friend thinks about the business hours.
The peer pressure is getting to me. Could be a great bike for an IGH conversion and 700c.
cheers -mathias
