I guess I'm abby-normal then. At only 5'8", and a 30-inch inseam, I still prefer a horizontal-toptube diamond frame in 57-58cm. Back when I was 16, they tried to 'fit' me to a 21-inch frame. I felt 'scrunched' and cramped-up. I opted for the larger 23" frame (the next size up) that allowed be to stretch out more. I can straddle it barefoot - barely - and 'the boys' are a bit crowded, but how often do I ride barefoot and put both feet down? All of my keeper DF road bikes have a 57-58/23" frame.

At 172 cm, I was always told that I needed a 52 or 53, maybe a 54 as I have rather long legs. But my most comfortable bike is a 55 and I think a 56 might be even better.

I like a bike that fits well. Bikes that are too big or small will give you a poor fit and that doesn't work for me.

Well said.

I run an XLarge Norco and it felt a bit tall to start.
Now my legs tell me everything is O.K..

Yeah, getting older = more upright = larger frame for most people.

Not me, even though I have some back issues, I find the right sized frame flexible enough. Old enough I doubt I will ever change.

I prefer the medium sized ones, I think it's more comfortable for me to use and stylish also.

I'm 6 foot, and ride road bikes in a range of frame sizes from a 22 inch Gitane to a 24 inch BSA.

The frames are - except for a modern 56cm - older style frames with quill stems which allow a good range of adjustment, provided the right stem length is there.

The Gitane is theoretically too small, but I find it to be the most comfortable road bike I own, and it's the one I take out most often for a long ride or sportive. Some of this may be down to the ride quality of the frame rather than fit; the modern bike which should be a perfect size is just not so good, possibly down to the aluminium frame.

5'10"? I didn't know they could stack letters that high!
