Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm not such a fan of the Alpha jacket.. why does this strike me as nothing but a baselayer sewn into the jacket, and then charging a lot of money for both, without the flexiblity of 2 separate pieces of clothing?

The Alpah Jacket is $129 at Jenson.

Both the jacket and jersey versions are exactly that - a base layer sewn into an outer layer - but with the ability to unzip the base layer. That's what makes them so special.

I own the Jersey version. It is an incredibly versatile garment and worth it at full price.

Honestly curious.. what's the advantage of one's base layer zip-attaching to the outer layer? ie. vs. 2 separate pieces?

700 x 23 Continental Ultra Sport II Rigid Tire wire bead for $7.63 U.S. at Ribble. This is by far the lowest I've seen these tires.

Also ...

700 x 23 and 700 x 32 Vittoria Zafirro Rigid Tire wire bead for $7.08 U.S. at Ribble. Black only. No colors.

The inner insulating layer is not zipper attached. It is sewn in, attached permanently to the outer layer.

The jacket version has insulation all around the torso and arms and wind block front and rear with vented side panels. The jersey version has insulation only on the front of the torso and none on the arms while the rear of the garment is air permeable and lightly fleeced.

With either the jersey or jacket, one unzips the outer wind blocking layer and cold air does not hit your chest because of the inner insulating layer. The inner base layer can be unzipped to cool/vent even further. This is all done with one garment instead of separate shell and mid or base layer.

One could argue that the same is possible with separate garments and that is certainly true but this works extremely well, giving great freedom of movement without bulk. I was skeptical but am a fan now.

Hmm, I bought a 6-pack of these off Amazon for much cheaper, but it's turning out now in the comments that they are suspected of being counterfeit. As I don't use the Shimano joining pin on my Shimano chains, and leave them permanently on my bike with these missing links instead, this concerns me. I'll have to check out this deal. Thanks!

Performance started their black Friday deals today. One of the "doorbusters" is Shimano Ultegra R8000 SPD-SL Carbon Road Pedals for $90 and then you can take 20% off of that. $72 is a pretty good deal for those pedals.

The website seems a little screwy. I reopen it and it now shows the price of $119. I've noticed the prices jumping around. They may be updating prices but I'm not sure. When I originally saw the $89.99 price for those pedals, then when you would backspace to the previous webpage it would show another price for a quick second before the page refreshed (showing the higher price) and then revert to the sale price.. I'm not sure how stable their new website is.

The other solid deal at Performance it the $119 for the G3 Bike Workstand. You only see that price about once a year. I bought one 2 years ago at that price. Nice stand.

At performance, they have Feedback Sports Omnium Portable trainer for 20% off, and if like me, you received in the mail a black Friday $20 off on $75 or more that brings this item to about $327 ( their regular price of $429 is higher than you can get it from Amazon for $400).
