Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In AZ, the 130 is the same price as the 70. That's nearly 86% extra suffering FOR FREE!

The full waffle is more than I can eat in one day. Currently, if I get 70 miles in a week, I feel like I had a reasonable week.

Same here. Well, maybe 130 in a 24-hour day, but probably not sunup-sundown.

Oooh, I guess AZ is not quite a double metric. Still sounds rough without a couple hour nap in there somewhere: 123-miles with 8,500 feet of climbing.

And the Wafer here is kinda long, so not as much free suffering as I'd previously calculated. Wafer, which will be about 79-miles in length.

I have unfounded suspicions that the BWR organizers measure rides in some sort of suffering metric, rather than distance alone.

Pretty sure the Eroica rides do that overtly.

We might get some 40° rain at some point next week. Fox10 only shows angrier clouds, but my phone has clouds with rain falling from them for 3 days straight

A neighbour's tree fell over in today's storm.

Are your cacti safe?

Dead calm here and most soils have moderate moisture content, so the cacti will likely remain standing for the rest of today at the very least.

Dang, I did something nasty to my Achilles during my morning skateboarding activity. No more of that, or hiking, or trail running for the next couple weeks I think.

Aren't you a bit old to be skateboarding?

Phone stopped charging last night, and this morning the only way I could get it to charge was to bend the cable a certain way and hold the phone upside down while chanting and throwing salt in the air. The wife said no to a new phone.

Went grocery shopping this afternoon and noticed that an iphone 11 was on sale for 250.00, Told the wife I would buy 2 and she agreed.

As datlas brought up a couple weeks ago, not having a home button is horrifying. I’m not sure how I feel about this phone. It’s also smaller than my Iphone 8. Yet to be determined if thats a good thing.

Rode with my coach today and re stressed he didn’t want me riding at night. Me being the young know it all said I would be fine. Well, he proceeds to tell me about 2 cyclist that got hit by cars very recently. Within the time I have started cycling. These were both local. and on the very same streets I ride on. The male died, hit and run. Later that year a female cyclist was hit at night and suffered brain damage. Fractured skull, I still don’t think she can walk.

That was sobering. I don’t think i’ll be riding at night anymore, if I do I will be strictly staying in my neighborhood.
