There's this Litespeed Ultimate on Ebay, but it would need a complete rebuild that would run about $1500-2000 altogether......

I am on the horns of a dilemma. I found rims, spokes, and nipples as well as tension gauge and nipple driver for rebuilding the wheels for the Ritchey. The total is pretty close to a brand new pair of Fulcrum Racing 4's from PBK, which would be lighter, more aerodynamic, and probably better quality than I could build myself. BUT I wouldn't have the experience of building wheels. So, how much is that experience worth?
Buying the Fulcrums doesn't prevent me later buying the stuff to build the wheel, but it would be later.
Then there's another dilemma - Mrs. GeneJockey just spent a chunk of money on that bassoon, which means one of two things - 1) this frees me to spend a similar, but lower amount on myself, or 2) this means I shouldn't spend anything like that on myself, since she's spent so much. OMG, I was scheduled for the discogram and was just informed that it is not covered. SMFH. Now, I am going to pivot to the nerve block option but I'm not sure they can fit this in before year end. If not it will cost me easily an extra $1,000 since I'm already over my my max out of pocket this year.

I built my own wheels once. I tend to like building/assembling stuff myself, but I don't need to do that ever again. Another vote for the Fulcrums, especially since the final result will be better.

We have a finished garage - vinyl tile floor, dry wall, a real ceiling with insulation above, and two 20 amp circuits with numerous outlets along the walls*. It's where I keep, and work on my biked. The Younger Boy and I managed to convince Mrs. GeneJockey to clear her clutter out of it so he could use it for D&D nights with his buds, and I could use it for Zwifting. After a week or two, Mrs. GeneJockey noticed all that space, and said she wanted to use it and the big folding table 'temporarily' to sort and organize her clutter.
That was two months ago.
I no longer take my Zwifting set up down when not in use, lest my space disappear. At least the family now treats the bike storage area as sacrosanct. This is in part, I believe, because it's completely full of bikes.
*This was the one good thing I got out of wasting a year of my life trying to start a company with my crazy ex-boss, who I later learned was meth-addled.(He'd successfully started at least one company and was instrumental in another, so it wasn't obviously crazy)

I have nothing but the greatest respect for seedsbelize and his bicycle-related ideas, but I suspect he has never owned, much less beat the crap out of, a pair of high-quality, factory wheels. I used to build wheels back in the day too. Now it makes very little sense in my opinion.

The custom wheelset I had built for the Battaglin went 5000 miles with me at my heaviest on them before they needed any truing at all, not to mention that I'm a rock and pothole magnet. I'll never be able to do that, and certainly not the first time.
