Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your CTL tracking may not be as robust, since you don't have power on any of your outdoor rides, but it looks as if you carry a significantly lower training load than he typically does; keep in mind that he's got 400+ miles on the odometer in the last two weeks.

Gave Anquetil a shot this morning - pop goes the weasel!

Flat, rolling, and short climbs were doable. Long climbs, not so much - I was redlining about 2/3 of the way up the Epic KOM and had to drop off. Consolation prize was setting a new PR for holding 300w - I remember when I was pretty happy with doing that for 5min, today was 17min.

When I was in better shape a few months back, I was right at the edge of being able to hang with the B-bot group. Not so much these days. My increased kg is significantly detrimental to the w/kg equation.

300 watts for 17 mins……… I wonder if I can do that. The issue, I would have to have it set in ERG, keeping it constant without I would prolly fail. I would prolly fail either way.

If you can, you need to up your FTP estimate a wee bit.

Yeah, I've gotten a little stronger in the last couple of years... but I've gotten a lot lighter. That helps a lot.

I feel like I'm 90% back to somewhat normal. Somewhat. I haven't been on a bike in nearly a month. I imagine I have lost the wee bit of fitness I had before that. In reality, my cycling life has been effectively on hold since that shoulder injury just about two years ago. Serial injuries, lockdown, etc. etc. etc. Today I feel ready, but we've got a steady light cold rain falling. I've gotten a lot of reading* done in those two years. I've slimmed down.

First non-fake ride in over a week. Glorious. My iPhone digital light meter struggled with the snow, white bike, etc.

My weather app says that the snow depth has decrease 3” today from 6.8” this AM to 3.8” now at past 3 PM. I guess sunshine and 43° will do that.

Re read this, I think the A group would cause my Ritchey to Breakaway.

I am tempted to try when I get back from work on Monday.

Also, I’ll be in Austin for 2 long over nights, as well as Detroit.

I’ll prolly hang out at Johnies the first day, any other recommendations would be cool if anybody has any.

Anquetil puts out about the same power as Brevet, but is significantly lighter, so she goes about the same speed except she's much faster when climbing.... which she does a lot. Oh, and the A group today was waaaaay smaller than the B group. Like, 4 or 5 riders beside myself. Much harder to shelter.
