Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hey, WTF, I may even give playing out solo another try. First gig early this year went great, they wanted to re-book me etc., but I just didn't like playing solo (most of my other playing out experience was in duos). I can get the gigs, just don't know how much I'd like doing it. I'm good by OC standards, which admittedly is a low bar. To quote the late great Levon Helm I ain't in it for my health. Or the pathetic $. I do have the time now that I'm retired. I wouldn't have to rehearse too much, I already have a big repertoire, I'd just have to sharpen it up, which would take a week. K. Urban, J. Mayer, Maroon 5, Neil Young etc. covers and I'd throw in some of my original. Here's me and my pal Don playing in a duo a couple of years back. Motown meets Bluegrass cover.

Rouvy. It's cheaper than the other commercial options at $80yr, and effed if I'm paying what Zwift wants I don't need games, I don't need "racing", and Rouvy delivers the load just fine. It has an online workout builder that's much better than the TrainerRoad desktop app for workout building, and the video routes are a vaguely-interesting second screen in addition to my ever-increasing number of streaming platforms.

And I can actually make it go, unlike PerfPro or GoldenCheetah.

In my experience, those who talk the most about it are doing the least.

I mean, when was the last time you guys heard about my love life?

Well, sometimes you go without a couple of years, then when you get back in the saddle you might talk about it a little.

Today I have been busy.

Grocery store
Load of laundry
ground coffee beans for work and home
Made 2 lunches for work consumption
My dog walked me and made me pick up his poop
Did a little work in advance of tomorrow's clown show
Made dinner in the crock pot:
Andouille sausage, 1 qt of broth, 1 can of kidney beans, 1 cup of rice, 1 cup of water, corn, 1 can of diced tomatoes and about a teaspoon of salt.

The Mrs. Is working today as a system is going live and she had to be there for it. I thought I would help out a bit since she's been so busy with the rollout.

No riding since it is cold and rainy. No fake miles either. Maybe I should nap?

Sufferfest. $10/month. No games, just workouts (some with accompanying videos, some without). Tests you at 4 different points on the power curve (FTP, 5 min, 1 min and 5-sec) and bases workouts off of those numbers, rather than scaling everything off of FTP.

My curve is biased towards the short term, with FTP being a weakness. As such, workouts that targeted 1-min/5-min power, but were scaled off of FTP, were always way too easy. Sufferfest targeting seems much better. I would imagine that a lot of people would benefit from their testing/scaling.

So, 1,346 miles later, we're in VA. Time to take a load off.

I used to hate those end of the year projects they’re trying to complete. You have to bust your hump during the holidays so they can fulfill some unreasonable objective.

*sigh*. So sweet to be free of all that stress.

Rouvy is what I use. It has real road video, smart trainer integration, structured work outs, challenges, and "career" advancements to keep you motivated.
YMMV
