While checking on a water leak at the foundation, on the far side of my house this morning, I found an in the ground yellowjackets nest , but unfortunately they found me first . Three times on the right leg .
That was about six hours ago and my knee and calf are still burning.
No riding today . ☹️

My best friend decided to dust his bike off today for the first time in (I believe) over a year. He's also a Clyde, and starting from square one, so it was a bit slower than I'm used to - but he got it done. I'm proud of him, and hope he gets out a few more times this year.
I have about 50 miles left to hit 400km for the month.
9/1 - 42.15
9/2 - 37.58
9/3 - 31.36
9/4 - 39.43

We maybe Clydes but we’re healthy Clydes .
I Just found out that my MUP riding friend and his wife just came down with Covid . Both have been vaccinated with Pfizer . Both are are around 73 and it’s got me worried.

I hope the vaccine does its job and keeps their symptoms mild, and that you'll be riding together soon.

Break in the rain this morning allowed me to ride on wet pavement. It rained most the night , we’ve got flood warnings issued but with our elevation, it’s never an issue .
Rode the SS MTB this morning.
Bee stings are still bothering me . I don’t remember them bothering me this long when I was younger.

405 in the books since I started a week ago last Sunday. Estimate I have another 210 remaining over the next four days. Treating myself to a motel room in Hyde Park, NY tonight. The localish camping option sucks.

another wet pavement ride this morning. But I missed riding yesterday because of the rain and wet pavement..
More rain this afternoon through tomorrow with a cold front coming in to push this rainy crap out and give us some fall temperatures for the first time . Low 50’s on Thursday and Friday mornings.

Noticed my knees bothering me more than normal and got to looking back at my last years log and noticed it was about the same time of year that my knees gave me so much trouble last year .
Then I got to reading last years posts from that period and discovered I had started mixing in a power walk with my riding .
I’ve been doing the same thing for the last couple of weeks trying to increase my chances of losing a little more weight .
Seems the walking is putting a strain on these old knees more than the biking .
So I’ll be cutting back on the brisk mile walks I’ve been taking and concentrate on my riding , even if I have split it up into two rides , morning and evening.

Back to biking as my primary exercise . I rode my converted Hardrock into town this morning.
I needed to get out of the immediate neighborhood to escape the shade . This time of the year when I need sun to help keep me warm , the streets around here are shaded most of the day with the sun being lower .
Nice and cool this morning, 46 when I got up . I waited until the temps hit close to 60 before riding which was around 10 .
Knees are better since I skipped the power walk yesterday .

579 loaded miles down. About 62 to go to home tomorrow. But first, straight to my local for a double bourbon with a cherry on the house.

Boy, how life can get in the way of bike riding. 400 miles isn't looking likely for the month at this point. Next week will add some more if all goes well. Why does this not bother me so much? Well:
I thought long and hard about what kind of bike would be better than my Tarmac, which I've come to know and love so much. And I concluded it would have to have disc brakes and electronic shifting, because that's about the only thing my Tarmac doesn't have that I'd like in a bike. But if you've shopped for a bike in the last year and a half, you know that most LBSs have practically nothing in stock, and when you need a 61cm frame, the options are even fewer. But I stumbled upon The Pro's Closet, and they had a modest selection. But what caught my eye was a used custom-built Specialized Aethos Pro, a 2021 model with SRAM Force Etap AXS groupset and Boyd Altamont Lite Disc wheelset, at a price which, with tax, cost more than the first brand new car I bought in 1984. But it was a 61cm frame. I hemmed and hawed over this for a week, and come Monday, I said, "**** it, I need this bike, I'll sell stuff to pay for it." Well, I have a lot to sell now, but I have the nicest bike I've ever ridden. And at my age, probably the last bike I'll buy (at least, the last bike with 2 wheels). Boy, howdy does it like to go fast. One of the people I talked with at The Pro's Closet (and I talked with many of them, pestering with questions while I pondered this purchase) said "this bike is kind of a unicorn, because these Aethos' don't stay in stock long anywhere."
So I plan to put a few more miles on this in September, but I still doubt I'll hit 400.

I made it home. When I pulled up to my local for a celebratory drink the odometer, which was at 0 when I left my house to ride to the train station, read 650 miles. Add the 70 I did to Brooklyn the day before Labor Day and local commuting miles, I am over 730 for the month.
