96 degrees here today, so I waited until around 1500 to start my normal out 'n back 36 miler. Took a couple days off after Tuesday's hot, big-mile day and felt really good on both legs today. Normally I can feel it when I'm in the last 5 miles, but not today. Very refreshed! Think I'm gonna start going harder with a day off every other day, see how that works out.
Saw a desert iguana - had to take this with zoom from a distance so I wouldn't spook him, and it ended up less sharp than I'd have liked:
...and my reflection:
Today I was wearing a throwback I T & B jersey just received from Ebay. Had one just like it in the late 90s, but for some reason I sold it along some years ago. Since Island Triathlon & Bike was my go-to LBS for my 4-year Hawaii tour, I've been wanting to find another one of their vintage jerseys for some time. Thanks, Hawaii-based Ebay seller!

2nd test ride for my latest around town bike.
Uptown to pick up breakfast this morning.
Bacon, chorizo, potato, avocado, & egg burrito. It was enough for two people.
Bit of radial runout in the cinnamon roll. BCD of 140mm.

My wife and I were able to get in another ride yesterday in Yellowstone before the roads open up for tourist vehicle traffic next week.

Cool, chilly, windy, sunny with a some hail.
We mostly got the good stuff.
We stopped for a Puget Sound view, but I pointed the camera in the opposite direction

Trying to get ready for Eroica, I rode up Bald Peak today with @gugie. The climb up on pavement was just basic fitness preparation, but the descent down Holly Hill Road, featuring a -18% grade on loose gravel, helped us practice for the fear we will experience descending Cypress.

Thanks Doc, she loves that photo you took of us. She really is pretty intrepid but she’s hinting that she doesn’t think she could do both days of Cino again this year. I don’t know why, this was her first bike ride this year - 40 miles in-and-back and about 1,800 feet of vertical at an average elevation around 7,000 ft with the steepest section (including a 14% pitch) right at the start then leveling off. She didn’t stop at all until lunch after putting in 15 miles. At 63, she just keeps on going.

Eroica tuning today for my legs; still deciding on which bike though. 40+ miles with about 11 of that gravel. It is still chilly here with icy wind gusts up to 20 mph, so I grumpily wore the leg warmers, fuzzy hat and extra layers yet again. I had a nice tailwind for the home stretch though.

^ You know I've been a cyclist for over two decades now and I've never thought of putting my bike in that position to change a flat.
I've put a few mountain bikes in that position, but it wasn't to change a flat...

OK, one final shot: top of Nine Mile Hill which is really ten miles long, or Ten Mile Hill which is really nine miles long, can't remember which it is. At any rate, a heroic effort by any rider,

30 miles today. Sun was out. Temps in the upper 40s, but climbing.
First ride on the Sachs freewheel with a new Sram chain. Buttery smooth.

Got in a century plus this weekend with my buddy Tim and his Della. This route gets warm in the summer. We had great spring weather.

Funny you mention shade; I first felt the rear going soft at least a mile earlier, but rode it out specifically to get to my halfway point and the shade I knew would be awaiting me there.
The road is not a busy one, so traffic noise wasn't an issue.
