I did a nice hilly, 30-mile ride this afternoon. Starting in Berkeley, I headed north along the ridge of the east bay hills, looped back of the other side of the hills past the San Pablo Reservoir, then back up & over via Wildcat Canyon. Glorious weather and empty roads for a change.
First stop was at the closed-up "office" to water the class garden (not shown).

I really regret not having owned either a steel or '90s CF Look.
As for the green Hills. Always brown before Memorial Day, if memory serves.

There are some really beautiful pictures posted above I'm a little embarrassed to post mine. The Mississippi just north of St Louis is pretty industrial. Oh well, I got out and enjoyed the ride.
The path was fairly empty except I shared it with a group of guys who were riding motorize cruisers.

A quick 27 miles to the beach yesterday for the first joy ride in a couple of weeks. Windy, cool and empty roads on the R600 which rarely sees the road.

Adventure Day on the Davidson! Visited two lakes and lots of woods. Everything is starting to leaf out, so gorgeous.
Tomorrow is Easter and the dogwoods finally blossomed! In VA the dogwoods are way back in the wooded areas and only show up when they blossom as the other trees are just starting to leaf out.
Thwe Cross-Lake Trail, between Lake Mercer and Burke Lake. This is usually PACKED with people.
Southern end of Burke Lake. Pretty amazing view.
Literally a new sign that someone bought & put up in their back yard along the MUP.
Southerwestern end of Lake Mercer. Mrs. Doc and I often walk around this lake on Sundays after church. Very relaxing, even during these troubled times.

Did a fast 25 up the North Shore. Water fountians aren't on and restrooms are closed, which is limiting my range a bit. Good to get out in these times...
The forecast said clouds and rain, but Mother Nature had a trick up her sleeve and pulled out sun and 63 degrees! I was doing yard work and decided to take a powder. Magnolias and spring flowers are all popping. Leaves are just starting to come out on the trees. Lots of people out, but less crazy than last week's ride.

Just a short 20k ride with mrs non-fixie to get rid of the cobwebs and also another try to get to grips with the big Snel. It is growing on me, but I'm still not sure where to go with the final build, hence the unfinished cables.

Fun ride today. Was supposedly 55-60 degrees but felt way warmer.
I also found a great new spot that I plan to return to with a hammock and maybe a book. Very quiet, but also very easy to get to on a bicycle
It's looking a lot like spring, the weeping willows are finally leafing out.
Happy spring, everyone!

Oh Man... Thank You For That!
Some of you folks are very fortunate to live so close to wonderful nature! Here in central California I'm not far from it, but most of the state and federal lands and even the local preserves are closed... So I'm obliged to stick to country roads for inspiration.
Today as I puttered along out south of Visalia I stopped to watch the bees in a young orchard, and was reminded of a Three Dog Night tune:
"Whenever I need to leave it all behind
Or feel the need to get away-ay-ay
I find a quiet place, far from the human race
Out in the country
Before the breathin' air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the night-time
Out where the rivers like to run
I stand alone and take back somethin' worth rememberin'
Whenever I feel them closing in on me
Or need a bit of room to move
When life becomes too fast, I find relief at last
Out in the country
Before the breathin' air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the night-time
Out where the rivers like to run
I stand alone and take back somethin' worth rememberin'"

The exquisite cruelty of Minnesota weather, piled upon the extraordinary limitations of Life in These Times, have conspired to hammer my soul into the depths of depression.
So I seek solace in the beauty of cycling, from those of you who live in better climates, and more colorful surroundings.
This too, shall pass. I'll be back on the road soon, and this little blip will be forgotten.

I’m headed up into the foothills above Boulder, CO. They are in the distance as I bike thru east campus:
During the climb, I rode thru an area that experienced a forest fire 10 years ago. The damage still dominates the landscape:
Snow on the north-facing slopes:
The ride is on a ridge between two canyons. That’s Lefthand Canyon down below:
At the turnaround point, just above the town of Gold Hill. That building is at one of the mines that surround the town:
The turnaround point is around 8800 ft. Today, it’s under a foot of snow with more expected.

Good weather, lotsa bikes under-ridden = must be saddle time in Puget Sound.
Falcon 531c with Campy shifting. A good combo.
Starting out
Winter’s wall still unadorned by color
The local Antique dealer.
Even with nearly zero traffic thee was a rear ender

You would all love the cycle path along the Nidda river, heading north-East away from Frankfurt am Main.
With a minor diversion across a couple of sleepy villages it links up with the Vulkanradweg which is equally wonderful.
Anyway, here’s one from last week, enjoying a ride out with my son (who is too bloody fast already at 14).
apologies for the lack of vintage kit! The Sky stuff happened to be clean!

Hmmm...
My "essential task" was to take pictures and post them online so that others stuck indoors due to crappy weather or ill health can enjoy the ride vicariously

We thank you for your service. Nice wide trail like that, it should be relatively easy to maintain proper distancing. Just be careful where/when you fire the snot rockets.

Thanks for that, Drillium Dude. We had heavy rain and severe wind here today. Power was out almost all day, trees down, property damage, etc.
Didn't get out, but glad others did.
