My big guy, Mango, is draped across my left arm as I type this. He's 20+ pounds... and I'm losing circulation in my hand.

He is warm, though.

Josie looks a lot like our Mirna, who we lost a few days ago due to kidney failure. She was 13, and a rescue from my wife's work parking lot. We rescued 4 kittens, still have Mirna's two sisters and my wife's brother has one. Mirna had an attitude, but in later years became quite a sweetie. We miss her.

Yes, the poor little guy was terrified. I had heard the dog flipping out, went outside and saw the juvenile cowering in a corner. Fortunately the dog is a huge coward and did not physically attack the guy. I threw the dog in the house and during that time the possum took off into the corner of the garage where I took the picture. Upon opening the roll up dog, it ran into the safety of some bushes.

I like possums. There is an adult that walks the top of the backyard fence line around 9PM every night. Our son likes to read outside while wrapped in a blanket and sitting on an outdoor couch around this time, and if the possum sees him, it will usually stop, sit down and stare at him for a few minutes before completing the journey across the fence. It has become a pretty common occurrence. I hear my son talking to the possum, asking how his night is going.

I’ll save me 3 year old’s encounter with another “baby monster” for another time.

That's a long way to walk, especially on your toes! I hope he remains happy in his new home and doesn't try returning to his previous home again.

I thought I remembered some stuff about possums and ticks and rabies, so I just did a quick google. Possums pick up a ton of ticks, but they kill 90% of the ticks they pick up, leaving fewer ticks for the rest of us. Also, they can get rabies, but only if their immune system is already compromised. They're apparently less likely to get rabies than we are.

Hah, our possums don't have rabies, but they do know how to operate zippers and pack buckles. Reckon that food is safe in your pack in your zipped up tent? I don't think so.... Like small bears with opposable thumbs (though they actually use their teeth to get hold of buckles and press the sides in)

We dont' have doorknobs in our house - they are the levers you pull down. Our cats know how to operate those - there is no point in closing a door to keep them confined. It gets a little trickier when the door opens in - they have to reach under the door with their paw, and hook it with their claws. They can then pull the door open.

Note also that his orientation is correct, both top to bottom and front to rear. Genius cat.
