The first one I had was a 4 speed 3/4 ton with a 454. 10 mpg everywhere. The yellow one was actually a GMC. A guy at work has a short-bed 78 Chevy and he has the original window sticker. It had every option except 4wd and the price was about $6000. Now a similar new truck would be about $45K, at least.

I'm the engineer who is clueless when it comes to cars. Generally, I can do circuits and programming but beyond that I'm pretty useless without a step by step walk through.
I find all of interesting and enjoy motorsports but I'm pretty un knowledgable when it comes to auto repair because I've never had many opportunities.

My grandfather ended up passing today. We saw him this morning and I knew it was close, hard breathing and the like Got the call over xmas dinner that it was close and we rushed to see him but didnt quite make it. RIP.
Let this be a lesson for everyone. Aging and disease takes us all, but you can fight it. My grandpa hadn't been well since 2001 and fought it with everything he had. You name the disease and he probably had it. There is an old Simpsons cartoon about Burns being in a perfect balance and that is how I thought of my Grandfather for most of his life. He made positive life changes, fought it and lived to see my brother and I graduate high school, get jobs and grow up into who we are. Today was just the end of it. RIP
Hope everyone had a good day with family, food and time well spent. Live a life worth remembering for everyone.

Putting overdrive in would be a major pain with the stickshift and 4wd but it made my truck so much nicer on the highway.
I would just fix it up and enjoy it.

Funny you say the middle name. I took my grandpas middle name and that wasn't something I gave much thought to until now.
I don't think he is planning anything major to the truck. Definitely could use a new trans. I'm told it's never been replaced which means it's easily >200k miles and didnt have overall the truck didnt have e much maintenance on it for the last 15 or so years. Not even the clutch had been replaced.. which would explain why it's so painful to get it shift.
It really was quite the adventure to go get this thing and not something I'd thought I'd do in 2018. Hoping it brings good tidings to 2019 and all.

I haven't been at work since Dec 14th, just been having a great time being off and being with the kids and Mrs FB. Each night my daughter asks me if I can come get her in the morning, just like she usually does on Friday and Saturday. Tonight I finally had to say no again and it broke her little heart. I don't think anyone will pay me to stay home and hang out with my family, but I kinda wish they would.
I'm already super lucky to have that much vacation time and I'm grateful, but tonight I'm wanting more.

I will be taking 24 hours of vacation to get 18 days off because of the way the holidays fell and I flexed some time before hand. Don't think I want to go back lol

The guy a few offices down runs a diffuser quite frequently. It is obnoxiously pungent.
We've asked him to shut his door. We've asked him to turn it off. We've filed complaints with the company. Yet he continues to use it even as it drives people off the floor.

I just logged in this morning to see how many points I have.
Does anyone know when points stopped expiring? I have 15 total, 8 recent, and 7 from the 2012-2013 season. I think that might have been before points stopped expiring...

I can't find it anywhere; you're 15 off so my advice is to just keep winning!
If you race any 3/4's let me know and maybe I can help out. Don't expect much tho!

Day off work today so I got to sleep in a bit more, and will be getting a bunch of chores done and generally relaxing. Middling fixed gear ride (2 hr), dentist, haircut, oil change, laundry, hanging out. Might drop into work for an hour or two later before music night tonight just so my inbox doesn't stack too high and I don't slave at my desk all day tomorrow.

Some of my students and I got interviewed and video was made of us doing experiments last fall. The final video aired on the local morning show yesterday and is now on YouTube. I really hate watching myself so it took a whole day before I could work up the motivation to watch it, and, even then, I had to stop and start it a bunch as I couldn't make it through in a single sitting. Not as bad as I feared, but not great either.

Spent a few days in Maui, it was awesome - 80-ish degrees and warm tropical water.. tons of snorkeling!
Now I've returned to 55 and rain.. ugh. And rest week is over, time to ride.

Also, the downside to sweet sock tanlines is my ankles got sunburned lol!
I didn't even know that was a thing.. these ankles hadn't seen sun in years.

Thoughts on this video? I'm sure it's making it's way around. These guys embody what I've come to realize is a "crit bro." I swear a lot in my daily life, but these guys take it to another level. and it 'doesn't make it any easier on me to try to self justify what i do as not a ******y sport lol.

Look forward to watching that when I get home later. One of those guys (Adam) is a buddy of mine, used to race with SDBC, still lives here. Tri background. I remember when he was still a 3 (on a different team) and used to spend half (or more) of a crit OTF solo. Crazy strong.
I've seen it on my FB feed a few times w/o sound. I have mixed feelings about the way that it's marketed. Kinda grungy, "grizzled", sweat-and-tears, bootstraps kinda stuff, but actively trying to be. Like the bar in the background for a lot of the interviews is tacky. Nothing against it, I just find it distasteful . Like I said I'll let you know what I think, should be interesting.

And I realized half way through I've bought stuff online from Eran Preble. He used to race collegiate on the east coast with some guys I knew. Found him on slowtwitch and bought my first set of race wheels and a power meter from him a couple of years later. Cycling community is small.
