Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had a softball game a couple of weeks ago under cloudy, breezy and mid 40s condition. There weren't that many guys sporting shorts, there's just too much time spent in the dugout just watching and chillin'.

I was actually thinking of approaching my wife about getting a Serotta built, but his prices have gone way up this past year. You used to be able to get a bike starting at $7,500, now it’s closer to 11 if memory serves.

His studio is about 10 minutes away, I should probably just stop in some day.

I was going to try another bike, but I decided to just give this one another shot. That turned out to be a good thing! Today was totally different! I beat Monday's time on the 22 mile route by SEVEN MINUTES! Third fastest time on that route, which Strava says I've ridden 25 times. It only lost to the Litespeed and the Bianchi!

I guess I was having two off days.
It happens.

There’s a road nearby that runs N/S and we had a nice 11-15mph blow the other night. I was sure I was going to PR /KOM but alas, was 5 seconds off and it was a real struggle

When I decided to get a new bike to replace my 1980's custom steel frame, I looked around at local framebuilders. I found the price was prohibitively high compared to my budget and perceived value. I ended up getting the Habanero, made-to-measure custom geometry but at a much more affordable price.

I sometimes think about spoiling myself for, say, my 60th birthday and getting a locally made bike....but for now, this one works ok for me.

Snowing.

It's not cold enough to stick to/accumulate on the pavement, but no skinny tire ride for me today.

I'm impressed with the kickstand stabilizer and the knobby tires on the rollers.

Good music news!

My sister's kid, the bassoonist, got a temporary long-term gig with the Phoenix Symphony! Maybe LoP can go hear them and give us a report?

Near the start of my MTB ride yesterday, I came across a local resident. He was obviously intimidated by my massive guads, and didn't even make eye contact as I went by.

Tried to check in on the UP for snow and got a more somber report of a DUI truck driver crashing into a gas station, killing a customer pumping gas there.

I bet they would, if you asked them nicely and paid them enough.
