Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yep, and just to reiterate, the masks are worn primarily to keep the wearer's discharges contained rather than protect the wearer from others' discharges.

concerning mask usage. The against argument is that the virus is so small it can pass right through the mask fabric. So what is the thought process? Does a mask stop transmission or is it a feel good measure to give people confidence that something can be done to prevent the spread? a measure of something better than nothing?
There was at least one good study and video made about this early on in the pandemic. Masks definitely can curtail the amount of virus "expelled" into the air.

It may have spun up this way. We've been getting big rains since Sunday. Mowed the yard this morning at 7:00 because it was the only foreseeable dry time before we leave on Friday.

Makes sense. I have been avoiding analyzing this particularly political polarized piece of p.p.e. I figured, I'm not paying for them, I'm alone most of the day, I only need it when I'm around coworkers. No big deal. But now some of my friends are getting drawn into the politics. And dragging it with them everywhere. On top of we are starting to look like another mandate may be on the horizon.

Ad Bax, whose lab that video came from, was a very fast-ass rider in his day, in addition to being a brilliant scientist, and is still killing it on the roads around here.

Mid-August in So Cal, and it's mid-60s with drizzle this morning. I'm loving it!

I did a MTB ride yesterday evening on a route that I always seem to pick when the temps are north of 90. Mid-80's and a bit more shade than usual (later in the day), and I crushed my PR on the 2.5mi climb.

My Grandfather was some kind of Shriner. Mostly what he did was dressing as a clown and visiting kids in the hospital, that sort of thing.

I don't remember this happening in August, ever. Not riding today, at least not yet. I could probably benefit from a few days off the bike.

Yesterday 4 of us went up to Camp 9 from the Santa Clarita side. I was drenched from sweating in that humidity but we actually felt a little cold while hanging around at the top.

I am fine. Went on a very wet ride this morning and briefly met a friend of big john. Because conditions were quite wet (unusual here, I am told) I did not have time to socialize. Went to the top of Mandeville and then back home. Heading to USC soon to meet up with daughter #2.
