What kind of touring do you have in mind? Most of my "tours" are relatively short in time, but with lots of miles.

I converted from toe clips to SPD a few years, and have converted just about everything to SPD. Hardly ever ride further than a mile without SPD shoes (short rides on bare pedals).

If I'm planning to be on the bike every day, I'd probably just bring SPD shoes.

If I'm planning for a hard ride, followed by a few days mostly off the bike, then I might bring a some casual shoes.
