Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was putting the new chain on the Habanero build and I was surprised to feel how oily the chain was. In the past, the shimano chains I used had a slightly sticky/tacky feel to them fresh from the bag, but not really oily. The new one is clearly different. When did that change?

I was pleased to see, though, that they finally got rid of the stupid break-off pin and now provide a quick link. That's progress, although Shimano says it's a one-time only use.

Not truly stumped unless you can't get it in 6.

That is true, but I felt personally stumped due to how long it took me to figure out the word after I had all the letters exposed.

Sometimes on my rides (e.g., yesterday) I do this short drive behind the Brown Squirrel that goes to the entrance of Dead Horse Lake Golf Course. The driving range is right by the road. This net protects most of the danger zone, but not the first part, off the tees. There's a non-zero chance I could be targeted!

I've spent a lot of time on golf courses and driving ranges. The cart that picks up the balls is always a target for those on the range.

I've never seen anyone target a skinny dude on a bike.

I have yet to run across customer support as lame as GCN. I don't believe they actually read the messages. The response is the same no matter the question. Of course there's only one guy there. Adam Warnob. Somebody they picked off the street at random could do a better job.

But the hotel looks decent:

Oooooh! Just realized we are having dinner here the first night:

Joe Muer Seafood - Detroit Restaurant - Detroit, MI | OpenTable

I almost went there last time I was in Detroit, but there was an Eagles game on and it didn't look like the place to watch.

This reminds me of the sub-16lb bike Bicycle Guide magazine built back in about 1995 or so, just to see if it could be done. The answer was, "Yes, barely", and the bike itself was noodly even if you only weighted 150 lbs.

Now you can get a Specialize Ethos that weighs less than 14 lbs and can carry somebody who weighs 275 lbs!
