I wouldn't think it boorish or anything, but I'm content with having only a fuzzy idea of my bike spending. I was able to see the Domane for $1600 this year, so that offsets a good chunk - the R3 frame was only $1200. Still have the Assaults that I need to move, and that'll offset a good bit of the Zipps.

Texas and Puerto Rico decide to go to dinner together.
No, I don't frequent P&R. Sorry, I thought this was benign enough to share and too shocking to not share.Last edited by big john; 11-13-20 at 10:07 AM. Reason: We Can Move This To P&R if You Like.

Seeing as there were some nice sheets of ice on the back roads, I decided to ride to the bread shop with the new tires. As someone who has busted their ass on the ice on a few occasions, I was understandably anxious. I kept the carbide-studded rubber side down, though, and even managed to get up some inclines on some super slickery ice.

Will I even need to ride this weekend?

We have a remarkably peaceful solution in my household.
- No joint bank accounts
- Bill-paying is split equitably
- She buys what she wants with her income
- BillyD buys what he wants with his income

Vintage bikes can be such an expensive PITA sometimes
I want to put dual-pivot sidepulls on the SLT, but it takes the old nutted style attachment, not the modern recessed style.
Usually I have no problem with drilling out the back of the fork crown to accept the recessed mounting bolt, but this thing is fully chromed and I didn't like my chances of (1) being able to drill it at all or (2) not really screwing something up.
In a few days long search for mid-reach, nutted, dual-pivot sidepulls I came up mostly empty handed.
Browsing the Tektro website, they sell recessed -> nutted conversion kits for their brakes but they want $20 for two bolts, nuts, and washers, plus another $10 to ship it to me. Thankfully a set of 539 brakes is only around $50, but I'll end up having to disassemble at least one of them and swap mounting bolts.
I suppose it will be worth it to have brakes that are more than just a suggestion, but still....what a PITA.

We do the same, except with a joint account for paying the joint expenses into which we both funnel a portion of our direct deposits.

I normally don't wear my helmet on the 1.5 mile round trip to the bakery/grocery store/liquor store, but I sure made a point of it this time. Hell, I would have put on elbow pads if I had 'em.
When I'm driving in slippery conditions and there's no other traffic around, I'll regularly test the limits of my traction see to what kind of braking and acceleration I can get away with. I gave that a whirl with the bike - I could spin the rear without too much effort, but it wasn't going to break loose willy-nilly. I didn't have the cojones to really lock up the front brakes, but I did test them to my satisfaction. It was all pretty reassuring. That said, I'm not going to be rip-roaring around corners any time soon.

Sometimes she surprises me. She was so concerned I might not train the pup to her liking that she was willing to split the cost of professional training, to which I had no objections. Happy wife, happy life.
