What no "seypat setup"? Where's the triple with bar end shifters?
Looks like fun though.

That is the one I "saved" earlier this year. Originally, it was going to be a loaner bike for some prospective triathletes. That hasn't materialized yet. I guess it will get the "seypat setup" after all. Put on a 130/86 Takagi triple. Rattlecan the small ring white so that it will match the Superbe rings, or put chrome ones on. Put a set of L600 first gen Dura-Ace barcons on and keep the rest of the setup stock. Polish up those Copper Arayas. Put on some new bar tape/cables/pads. Red, white, or black? Got a new Selle Turbo saddle to throw on. Torn between black tires, Panaracer Pasela gumwalls, or the Conti GrandPrix Classic. Gotta admit I am digging the looks of the Contis. Decisions, decisions. I have these to throw on if needed.

I thank you and the bike thanks you. You have started the process. I have the Moonlight Ride on Aug. 25th. This will be the bike. I will get it ready by then.

Up thread you were talking about having trouble with a 28T cog and your RD. I'll send you one of these long cage RDs. See if it solves your problem. The 600 GS is fricton only. Send me a PM with your address and I will get one in the mail.

I just finished this '87! Actually, I still have a little bit to do: I will eventually get some wheels built on a set of 6402 hubs I have, right now it is borrowing the 7-speed 6400 wheels from my RB1. And I think my chain is too short, kept jamming up in weird ways on my 20-mile shakedown ride this morning.

Here's how I picked it up - total triathlon mode:

And after I stripped it and replaced it with a 6400 group:

It rides really nicely, smooth and comfortable so far - looking forward to getting some longer rides in soon!

Nice!
My Miami Vice is "total triathlon mode". In fact looks just like your before version.
Is that 8 speed?

I'm thinking:

Bontrager Race X Lite wheels in black with stainless spokes.
2x10 DA downtube shifters.
Black 105 FD
Black 105 RD
FSA Team Carbon crankset w/bronze Stronglight rings.
Black calipers (I have Cannondale/Tektro's, may need to change)
Prologo saddle in white with black trim.
Black cable housings.
White perforated Fizik wrap.
Probably leave the 25's on there.
White Xpedo Thrust 7 pedals
Same seat post, same stem.
Nitto B115-420 bars.
Same brake levers, maybe black hoods.

Does anyone want those horrible bars? I have the DT shifter mount for them, as well.......

Sounds good RT. But that two tone already looks good!
Is that a 54?
Those bars are by the Profile Co (the second company to come out with aero bars or the first company to "copy" Scott aero bars). The drops are shallower which may be more comfortable for some but they are missing the riding the hoods position. Although initially everyone used the Scott DH bars, Both Dave Scott and Mike Pigg were eventually sponsored by profile and used their aero bars.

Yes, I used to have the clamp-on elbow rests for those, which were high and almost required the bars be pointed more upward.

It is a 54, no problem as I'll use the stem that's on it. The black components/housing will set off the yellow and white. I need to work on getting the Race X Lite decals off the wheels, as the red/white will clash mightily. A thorough clean-up, rebuild, etc. I am a fan of that headset, which has always been easy to pack and adjust.

I sort of needed a "normal" Ironman to be around while I build the Not Your Daddy's Ironman, to remind me of What Is and What Always......

If I make a deal on wheels for the Wraith, the NYDIM gets a more modern set and the Rolf black Vector Pro's go on this.....

And also, I'm looking for someone to facilitate it to me. I met Deal4Fuji last night at the Ride of Silence, great guy, 6'5" and he wants an Ironman. He was on a Lotus Excelle, by the way. The pics are from the owner, and he sounds like a nice guy.

==================================================================================

Thanks to fleslider's help facilitating and Robbie contacting the seller, this '85 Ft. Collins Ironman now resides in NC. Chris did a fantastic job packing this bike, so now I kind of know what to do if I can ever return the favor for someone here. It was a long process with the seller, Chris and myself all away on travel in different weeks. Now that it's arrived and put together, Eastern NC has decided to have monsoon season. I haven't ridden it yet or made final adjustments, or added lights & cages. I'll probably raise the stem some more. The sellers photos show it way past the max height line, any thoughts on how much you can exceed that line?

One thing that jumped out at me was how good the original candy apple red paint looked after 30+ years, but reading the owners manual I see the paint is something Centurion prided themselves on. Everything is stock on the bike and my only trade out has been the saddle. Thanks Robbie & Chris !!!

Blue is always good. Black and Chrome works as well. Digging those rims on the Lemans. It looks like a souped up hot rod.

If the time ever comes for new cables/bar tape, and you are looking for something different, here is a possibility. The cable is Jagwire. Tape is Fizik. Both are shiny like metal. Not an IM or even a Centurion, but a close cousin. Picture just posted for color scheme reference. One of these days it will have silver rims and some decals.

I don't know much about these bikes but I just happened to be browsing through Craigslist and saw one of these, incomplete project bikes for $80 then saw this thread. For anyone in the NYC area interested - no idea if it's a good deal or what.

Guess I can't post URLs as I don't have enough posts yet but if you search for "ironman" in the NYC Craigslist Bike Parts category it comes up. Looks like it's in the LES.

@seypat looking good, the differences in your Miami Vice Ironman are as cool as they are unique.
@Deal4Fuji Welcome , looks like the start of something good. The 85 Ironman looks really nice and is the only year I'm missing, I'm envious .
@Danbianchi881 nice acquisition and very nice upgrade but that Carbon Ironman takes the cake. Hiw bout some up close and personal pics of that.

My MV has decided to stay so I made room on the daily rider rack while it undergoes its Masterization. I snipped off the Cat Eye "computer", put some round 53-39 TA rings on, and a pair of GP4s that had been on my Circuit. Now I can compare apples to apples.

You are more than welcome, and Chris did the work. A cooperative seller didn't hurt. Maybe he got a whiff of the mojo and decided to work with the phenomenon that is the Ironman cult....

I earnestly think you should just get a Nitto Technomic stem and swap it out. Avoid risk, live to buy another Ironman.

OK, IRONMAN people. Can you believe a guy had to ask how the Ironman "stacks up?"
It appears our work on this Earth is not yet finished.

I urge you to go to the thread and put in a polite 2 cents.
