Got to the park this morning and was going to ride with my buddies Frank and Steve. I really didn't want to do a very fast ride today because I need to rest the legs. They agreed to do a slower, "no shift" ride with me but that only lasted about 4-5 miles before they took off in hammer mode. With the smoke as thick as it was in the park, it was a good thing I did the ride slower because it was hard to breathe and going fast wouldn't have worked out well if I couldn't breathe. So, I did a 14-15 mph. relaxed paced, 45 mile, mostly solo ride.

This morning I hosted my weekly 37 mile Anderson Snow Park to 98 and back ride. Was a bit tired after doing last evenings ride but managed a respectable 17.7 MPH avg.

22.4 miles on the Allez in record time. I accomplished a feat today Marco Pantani would have been proud of. There's a short (approx 220 yards) transitional incline from one East-West road to another (Spanish Springs Rd to Queen Rd up Truckee River Lane), quite steep. I zoomed ↑ that @ 18mph. Normally it's 8mph, huff n' puff. I'll probably not do that again.

17 miles Thursday night, mostly to fetch the last of my favorite seasonal ale, which the local store is out of. Good enough motivation.

Thursday: 21 miles riding to and from work. Hot/humid enough that when I got home the air conditioning felt like it should be illegal.

Had a really nice 42 mile, moderately paced solo ride this morning then met up with my buddy Frank and did the last 8 miles with him for a total of 50 miles. While I only need 120 miles to get my second 1,000 mile month for the year, I'm planning on 50 mile rides, each day for the rest of the month, if the weather allows. If all goes well, that should get me to 1,180 miles for the month, 5,256 miles YTD and 39,891 miles overall. Sometimes I wish I was younger than 70 so it would be much easier to do this kind of stuff.

Rode Today
Took the bike out for my standard 11 mile ride. This is my first ride since I switched out the handlebar grips. I get riders parsley in my hands and fingers to a point where I had no feeling in them. I switched out the old with a pair of Specialized grips that the local b/s recommended and no problems. A big difference when I ride, almost no numbness or tingly feeling.

However, considering two different sets of doctors at two different VA hospitals had me spending the rest of my life in a wheelchair and I'm pedaling over 20 miles a day - can't complain.
25.7 miles today on the Roubaix. The last 2 miles traveling sideways in 45mph gusts. But at least it's warm and sunny.

WOW! I'm 70 but your 40k miles makes my 12k miles (since 2013) look paltry. But then I don't live in Florida

Today, was one of those days I had to force myself to get up and on the bike. Glad I did, only 14 miles, but I enjoyed them all!

This morning was blistering hot and humid. I don't normally get affected by the heat and humidity, but on this morning's 50 mile ride, the heat just took everything out of me. During the passes through the subdivision, with it's very shaded streets, I slowed it down just to be able to ride in the shade longer. I checked with my weather app during the ride and the heat index was a balmy 104º.

You must be a young 50+ because with this heat and humidity we've been having, I would be hard pressed to do a 26 mile ride with a 20.5 mph average, especially on the Suncoast where there is zero shade for most of the trail.

I got to the LBS at 0759 for the 0800 ride and after only 5 easy miles to the shop I was already dripping wet. The guys were complaining about their EXPENSIVE shades fogging up as they were waiting for the ride to start.
Managed to stay with the younger boys as they cranked it up a bit. 25mph in this heat and humidity feels like a whole lot harder compared to when temperatures are in the 70F's. Lost my eyeglass mirror some how so I turned around to try to find it but no luck. Was also very tired from this past week's messing with landscaping and septic tank issues so never completed my distance today. Wanted to ride 75 but only made it to 65.02 miles. My age right now but come July 10th I'll have to make sure every ride is 66 miles when out on the Propel.
p.s.-while looking for my mirror I found a Stanley 3/8 x 11/16 socket and a truck tire pressure gauge. If the gauge is accurate it will go in the motor home.

An advantage of Northern Nevada (desert) is that the temperature is reasonably in the morning. Triple digits are coming next week but 8AM is still in the 70s. Only 20.1 miles today on the Allez. I rode an extra block when I got home just to make the odometer bounce up to 20. Solo rides get boring after a while.

Did an early morning ride today, to test out yet another set of handlebars on my Velo de Ville. The stem needs to be lowered a bit, but I think I've finally found a winner. I also discovered the perfect background against which to shoot bikes for CL, should I ever decide to sell any:
`Tis the season of curbside freebies! I found these sitting in front of one house, and wished I had brought a trailer.

Wd djd 32.1 miles on the tandem. Had a nominally flat tire. We've hac only onc resl flat and one slow lesk in .aybe 8000 mkles. (I'm typinv this on my smarffone. Can you tell?) Today's was only a squidhy frong tire and I vould n't find the leak. Maybe air was leaking from the valve. Oh, and I've had some beer.

The grips are called "Body Geometry". They are held in place on the handlebar with a Allen screw. The shape of the grip allows the back of the palm closest to the wrist to rest on it. They are very comfortable, I'm going to attempt a 20 mile ride today so Ill see for sure if they work. So far so good though.

Another ride in the furnace this morning. Met my buddy Steve and started out for our ride. We were headed to the west parking lot to pick up our buddy Frankie. Returned to east parking lot and dropped both Steve and Frankie. Finished the 48 mile ride on my own, which is OK with me. I did manage to tag on to Amanda Coker's pace line for about 4 miles on the way back to the van. Had a nice 20-23 mph pace going. Had one guy, a park regular, in front of me that was in his mid/late 60s riding an old Trek mountain bike with a suspension front end who had been riding with her for about the last hour or so. He was in the line every time they passed me going in the opposite direction.
It's been almost a week since the control burns they did and as of today, there are hot spots that are still smoldering.
