Beautiful day in Gallup today. I felt good for the entire 22 miles, which is kinda rare for me, I'm usually feeling pretty beat after about 12 miles in. Could be I felt good because I was riding too damn slow, all 4 repeat Strava segments were slower than the last time I rode here

I'm always envious of the wide open vistas that folks not on the east coast get to experience when they're riding. Seems like I'm always surrounded by trees.
Not that that's always a bad thing

I finished the Demon Copperhead audiobook this morning. I've been enslaved by it all week, every morning. Starting tomorrow I can ride again in the morning. The ability of Kingsolver to tell a story cannot be overstated. This one is an addictive story(as are they all) about addiction. Fitting.

The other American writer whose books I devour without a second thought is no longer with us Barry Lopez. I will likely launch into one of his next. Soon. After a week of riding, so I don't forget how. And soon, I will be able to do both in the same day. Wile away the morning in an audiobook, and ride in the middle of the day. Bliss for a few months. And then another long season of heat and humidity. The equivalent of winter in my former world. But balance us good. Too much fun makes Jack a dull boy.

Hard to resist the NFL’s latest temptation . . . morning games. With the first game starting at 9:30, now your entire Sunday can be spent in front of the tv.

That was the beauty of living on the west coast, before cable and the general modernization of the world. Start watching the games at ten and be done at four, with some day left over.

Of course now I watch no tv at all, of any stripe, at any time if the day. Can I say bliss twice in the same morning?

Is it possible that my Emonda is faster than my Domane? They are virtually the same spec -
Emonda 1pound lighter
Domane 12 speed Ultegra Di2 vs. Emonda 12 speed 105 Di2
Both have Trek carbon wheels with comparable depths
Emonda has 5000 TLS 25mm tires vs. Pirelli Race TLR SL in 28mm
Domane has ceramic BB while Emonda is stock
Sometimes it just feels faster, but I don’t have any imperial data. Might be that sometimes I just feel faster, and just coincidentally I’m on the Emonda. 🤷🏻♂️

In that vein, Boulderthon 10k: 43:15. HR higher than ever post crash/move. 37th OA, 1AG, beaten only by a single 48yo of the 40+ crowd at all. Mind, there were half and full marathons pulling talent away.
AG did the half, 1:45:06. 372OA, 17AG. She was running it as a full-sim at half distance though.

And for jtaylor996, if the reason some traffic signals are horizontal is because of wind, then I'd say they all need to change when replaced. It is really not good to have safety items like that be non-standard.
