Fall is definitely in the air around here and the colors are changing in the mountains. I had a beautiful ride Friday morning.

Did a quick 20k ride yesterday evening up in the National Park close to where I live. No ride today - it's my birthday and I've had just a little too much wine & beer yesterday.
Planning on going for a 40-50k ride tomorrow if weather permits it.

It's been many months for me off a roadie and a great day weather wise to get back on. Was actually a little apprehensive getting on road with the traffic instead of hiding safely in the forests not knowing my fitness level on road. Also had to adapt myself to narrow bars and steering by thought but after the first climb was ok.
In the end mtbing has my bike fitness as good as ever and was a great days riding on one of my typical routes.

Sunday update: Went for a ride up to a lookout on the top of a mountain in our local National Park. With the colder weather (15c / 60f), it is perfect for cycling! Stats are as follow:

Just riding around my normal west L.A. area but went a little off my regular route. Sometimes I forget I live in a tourist destination area

35 miles Friday, including a casual group ride.
10 miles Saturday, tuneup for planned century Sunday.
101 miles Sunday, my first solo century since November 2017. I'd planned to do more centuries in 2018 but injury and illness changed my plans so most rides were under 50 miles.
As usual, the hardest part of a solo century after about 75 miles was the mental game. Yeah, my neck and knees were aching but I knew if I stayed too close to home it'd be too easy to bail out. So I rode far enough away to force myself to ride back and finish the dang thing.
Longer rides are easier for me with group/event rides. Helps to have a little company, even if we're just commiserating.
75 miles into a solo century Sunday. Decided to add a little bushy tailed doodad to make the bike feel faster.

My usual
Did my usual 52 mile, 2.7K elevation ride. Rolling terrain of Westchester, with fall coming in. Met a wonderful gentleman at my break spot who rode along with me for about 6 miles on the way back and helped me up my pace.

Saturday I went for a 83k ride. My first long bike ride in several weeks. Felt good going out. Kind of suffered on the way back. All in all was great to get out for a ride.

Saturday I was physically tired. I think some of my past exertions are catching up to me. It was not a pleasant ride, but I got in my 40 miles on my usual S. Tampa route. Sunday I felt better and rode out to Flatwoods trail for 45 miles. The weather has gotten a little nicer. Slightly cooler and not quite as miserable humidity.

Easy 40 miles on Saturday, then an indoor interval ride on Sunday. The weather had been predicted to be cold and dumping rain, and the radar even showed looming death at any minute. I sat on Zwift and grumbled to myself as it was brilliantly gorgeous outside the entire time I was riding and for another 4 hours afterwards. Jokes on me for trusting an Oregon weatherman.

I did my normal Sunday ride . I cut it short at about 20 miles as I stumbled on to a classic car event in Ventura, Ca. I was on my 1973 Windsor Profesional and as I was walking my bike through the crowd a guy came up to me and said they don't have a section for classic bikes! It was a wonderfull fall day , cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon here in Southern California. Joe joesvintageroadbikes.wordpress
