Thanks. That there is the rub. One of the things I find particularly abhorrent in an employer is one that, so I won't have to use obscenities let's call it, " takes advantage of an employees personal off time" by forcing them to work overtime against their will. I have had a lot of experience with this type of abuse. This particular one is now availing itself to my weekends when it finds it useful, or convenient. On top of the threats of job loss, lower wages etc.. ad nauseum...
I remember when I was so happy, after 4 years of trying to get this job, that I received my "you're hired" letter. Thought I had won a cosmic lottery somehow.

At the last job they were very reluctant to let me have a vacation. One of the 11 managers I had there tried to call me in when I was on a 1 week vacation. I was out riding so he sent a porter to my house to leave a note on the door asking me to come to work.

Yup: bad decisions, personality is destiny, First World problems, but that doesn't make it any easier for the poor bastard struggling with the demons or being trashed when he's gotten a potentially deadly disease by working his ass off. Wish there were more I could do, but both of them are at a point where all I can do is listen to them.
I must've watched Cold Mountain a dozen times from 2004-2005.

One of the benefit of old age for me has been a baseline feeling of contentment, but I have struggled too. Exercise, sailing, my family, and the Bach cantatas, and a lot of complaining got me through.

My dad gets a union pension, and "retired" in his 50s, but I thing that was just a matter of being beat to death and injuries in the construction industry. My parents live in the house dad built in 1960, and has been long paid off as well. I don't know if I could live with the frugality they have!

Circuit obtained! Seller threw in the original black Rolls saddle in very good condition.
The bike itself spent a lot of time in garages and NOT being ridden! It really is all original, right down to the 90mm Cinelli stem and the 40 mm Giro d'Italia bars. The whole Sante groupset in good condition, right down to the decorative headset cover pieces. It's dirty as hell, but has all the original bits! I went $50 over what I wanted to, but the Rolls alone is worth that.
This creates a quandary - the black Rolls indicates this is a 1989, which came with a black Rolls saddle and black bar tape. The 1988 came with a white saddle and bar tape. I just bought a white Regal from, of all places, Sierra Trading Post online.

Looks like it was on the bridge over the Malad Gorge. I missed out on that bridge on my trip since I took scenic US 30 through that part of ID.

Just exchanged a bunch of texts with youngest brother. His meds seem to have kicked in. Suddenly, the new job doesn’t seem so bad and he’s ready to go kick middle brother’s partner’s ass. Actually said I’d been a good big brother to them, which is pretty overwhelming.

I worked at a dealer from 1989 to 1994 where I was told I was not allowed to take a vacation or have any time off as long as the store was open. If I didn't agree they would hire a second guy to split the work (and money) with. In other words, a 50% cut in pay. Eventually they brought in a second guy, so I quit. They called me and said they would fire the other guy if I came back. I went back for a couple years and when they picked up another car line they hired another guy, so I quit for good.
At the last job they were very reluctant to let me have a vacation. One of the 11 managers I had there tried to call me in when I was on a 1 week vacation. I was out riding so he sent a porter to my house to leave a note on the door asking me to come to work.

When I had employees, I always made them take vacations No carry over, so better take the time off. People need time to refresh and regroup.

Im not expecting any inheritance. I don’t know what my parents have, and even divided by the six siblings it won’t likely be much. I always tell them to enjoy themselves and not worry about leaving any inheritances, and that the perfect estate plan is one where you spend your last dollar on your last day.

Rented a storage unit today, and a Brad nailer . Started the base trim, should finish that tomorrow. I have a couple small jobs to do on top of the trim. A couple hours tops. I might actually get a ride in this weekend! Daughter and sil are coming out in Sunday to help with the big stuff.
