I hate riding w/o my Garmin
Did a 42 mile club ride this morning. When I showed up, my Garmin was dead. WT???
I dont so much miss seeing my speed, cadence, heart rate, whatever. I just want the archive record that I actually rode. So now I have no record it even happened. No proof whatsoever. No addition to my weekly, monthly, yearly, LIFE mileage tally. As far as the digital ether goes, I never got out of bed at 5am to brave the morning traffic chaos. Blows chunks.
Uggh. I hate riding without my Garmin.

Mine bit the dust 2 weeks ago and I rode 3 good rides without it, problem for me was being on the front, I had no clue if I was dropping the pace or surging...mostly surging because I felt I needed to push harder because I felt slow, every time i turned I was off the front. no bueno

I have had a love hate relationship with the cadence sensor. It works fine until the battery dies and then I can't seem to get it to work when I change the battery. I need to find some way of testing the batteries to make sure they are good. However, I have put new batteries in before and still had a hard time getting it to work, then one day it starting working until the battery died again.

I only use mine when I'm actually on a "training ride".
I've lived car-free for 19 years, and go everywhere by bike. I can't count my commute + ride to/from the bar as "miles ridden".

Sure you rode today. Uh, huh! I'll bet it was alone, too! Nevermind, just re-read and saw the "club" part of that sentence. So at least you have witnesses!

Yeah, but it was a FAST ride too! Pacelines in the low to mid 20s with an overall average of 16-18 typically. Well, at least it FELT fast. Maybe it was even FASTER??? See? See??? Now I'll never know HOW fast?!? Arrrrrgggggghhhhh.

i feel this way about running... when i ride i typically just use a simple riding computer and document the info into a notepad document on my iPhone. Eventually i would like to get a 500 though. Garmin really motivated me to run more, so i'm sure it would do the same with riding

What kind of garmin GPS's work with the Strava app? Is it only bike specific ones? I have a Garmin car GPS; its a 1450 or something i think. My Gf has an android that i ussually use. But will my car gps work?

Are you confused? The Strava App only works on android and iphone. Strava.com works with any GPS device that can record a track in a proper file format.

Ask a club member, who has a garmin for his ride download, should be similar to what you did. You can also manually make a ride in garmin connect, will miss some items but at least you will have miles.

Op, you know you can do a manual entry - albeit with limited input options - on Garmin Connect. As for "proof", you know you did it, and that should suffice.

I hate kayak fishing without my garmin when I am 3 miles out and the fog rolls in.

I hate when "stuff" happens too, like forgetting your cleats, after driving all the way to the meeting spot

For me, the Garmin has been an awesome motivational tool. I feel like I'm writing pages of my cycling history with every ride and it makes me feel bad on a lazy or difficult day if I don't get a ride in to fill that page.
Last month, and for the past year or so, I've been averaging about 500 miles/mo. This month, I've already recorded over 300 and am on track for 1,000.

You still got out on the bike. You still did 42 miles. You still burned some calories. You still had fun didn't you? You still got to ride with some comrades - that always feels good! You still got to do what you love to do. It was just 1 day w/o it functioning. Write it down on your calendar. I hear what you're saying, and BF is the place to vent, but it was just 1 ride
