Replicas or no-name unlabeled frames from Hong-fu, Deng-fu, etc.? Not at all the same thing. If you know of warranty replacements of replica (fake branded knock-off) frames, I will accept your word for it, but I have never heard of this before. Several of the no-name sellers are well respected for their warranty practices, but the knock-off producers, who are hiding behind someone else's name, I don't know about.

And what they are doing (using the Pinarello name) is most certainly a violation of U.S. trademark (and probably copyright) law as well as similar laws in other countries. I am not taking issue with your decision, but you should not try to justify or defend it by making blatantly false assertions. You knowingly bought a counterfeit frame, the manufacture, distribution and sale of which is illegal in the U.S. and many other countries.

I would think he's pretty satisfied with everything but the saddle, so "better luck?"
I get your point, and I agree with your explanation, so perhaps "better served?"
Overall, if the bike works for him, and he doesn't impale himself on the stem/bar combo, or get a seat post suppository, or have the frame break under stress, good for him. A bike shop near me was swearing that the Dogma copies were just "back door" models from the same place. Shortly therefter, he lost his Pinarello brand, and is about to lose his Colnago, as well. Go figure. I've used the FSA Plasma bar/stem combo from China, $92, and it was fine. I was just always holding my breath, and don't prefer to ride that way.

I think you would have had better luck with a non-replica Chinese frame from one of the highly respected suppliers like Hong-fu, Deng-fu, or Workswell. The Workswell would have been cheaper, and from what is said on BF, arrives in excellent condition. While the replica sellers are trying to defraud the buyer, the non-replica suppliers are selling a straight up product that they stand behind. Even though the non-replica makers' names are not on the bikes, they do value their reputations and work to improve them.

An alloy nut arrived cracked; derailer hanger bent, BB threads buggered. Doesn't inspire much confidence in the quality of the frame and wheels.... (At least the Lizard Skins might hold the bars together ).
There are at least 3 or 4 Chinese companies which have earned a reputation for making cheap durable fairly high-quality frames- I'd be comfortable buying one of them, because they have stood the test of time and the scrutiny of scads of satisfied customers....but who knows what you're getting with these knock-offs, where the emphasis seems to be on looks? (And it does look nice!)
Hope it works out well for the OP....but I'd be leery of riding that bike.....

I understand OP is honest when people ask about his bike, but putting the Pinarello logo on something that's not is just tacky in my opinion. Take pride in what you own, but don't play it off as something it's not.

I don't believe anything could be further from the truth. If you don't take action you protect your trademarks you can loose them. That's why you sometimes hear of trademark and copyright law suits that may seem frivolous to a lay person but are really a "necessary evil" and IP owner arguably must pursue to protect its rights. Protecting one's rights is also why you will hear "Jeep is a registered trademark of the Chrysler Corporation" during commercials for Jeep vehicles and why Johnson & Johnson called them Band-Aid brand plastic strips. The mark owners don't want the terms to become generic and thus available for use by all manufacturers of similar products.
And what they are doing (using the Pinarello name) is most certainly a violation of U.S. trademark (and probably copyright) law as well as similar laws in other countries. I am not taking issue with your decision, but you should not try to justify or defend it by making blatantly false assertions. tacky is very subjective... I think you just want to use roundabout means to judge other people for the dumbest reasons possible... but do enjoy the faux sense of superiority you get from what other people ride... lol...

Good lord people. The OP got a bike built. Do we really need to thread crap parade on his work?
You're not telling him anything he doesn't know or hasn't thought about.
Anyone riding a bike is a good thing.

You are so aggressive and obnoxious - where does your anger originate? Each of your responses in this thread have been personally insulting as if you have an axe to grind. You portray all of the elitist qualities that you claim to condemn.

A quick scan of your forum posts has made me feel a little less sorry for myself. It seems you are just as obnoxious in most threads, taking any opportunity to insult Americans. Ironic that you're referencing Dr. Phil. Are you a fan?

Regardless of that, if we all just respond, "cool bike, nice build" and give a polite golf clap, it creates a distorted picture for others who might be thinking of buying a"replica" i.e. ounterfeit, frame.

How does anyone know that this bike, or any other counterfeit frames aren't made by the Hongfu, Dengfu or Workswell factories who may moonlight in this line of business to keep the lights on?

No one does know that. At least no one who posts here. And it is certainly possible. But is that what you are betting on? Seems like a long shot to me.

I think it's an attractive bike, but, if I were to go that route, I'd go label free. On the other hand, my go fast bike is steel and probably weighs 22 pounds on a light day, so who would listen to me anyway?

This thread makes me think of building codes, and the necessity to-in my business-frequently remind people that residential building codes don't exist so much for the current owner of a particular property, as they do for subsequent owners. If and when this bike, or any other knockoff, is sold, it's only fair and morally right that the seller first permanently mark the frame as a knockoff, and give full disclosure so that the new owner, or the owner after that, is aware. It's all well and good to say 'I've got buddies who race Crits on knockoff Tarmacs and so far no problem!' or whatever, but they know what they have; I sure would be inclined to want the probably more rigorous material selection, engineering and quality control of Pinarello, or Specialized or whichever bona fide (not knockoff) maker is involved.
There was the thread a while back with the guy in Santa Cruz who dressed up a Chinese frame to look like a Santa Cruz product...discuss?? Manufacturer decals are like a building official signing off on a permit, they say something about the end product to all those downstream users of said product and should not be tossed around so casually. Permanently mark frames as knockoffs if you build one!
