Your Heart is in Vintage Bikes, You Wouldn't Kick a Modern Bike Out of Bed

I'm not opposed to anything about modern bikes really. Fat tubes are fine; aero rims with 20 spokes, bullseye style cranks and neo ashtabula bottom brackets are all fine. I am however 100% against bikes that are covered in giant sized hideous advertising graphics. They'd have to pay me to ride one, a lot.
That said I admit I am lusting after the current Alan road bikes. They looked like space aliens BITD, and they still do. I'd have to scrub all the stickers and graphics from the components, but it might be worth it.

My Kvale is quite modern, but manages to escape the "decal" menace.

The lack of ugly graphics is one thing that I liked about my Jamis. I was buying it at the end of the year, and I decided to get the 2011 because it had a nice script on the downtube, instead of the plain bock letters on the 2012.

Put me down for some hideous graphics.
Just kidding, I have thought about destickering this bike many times, just can't bring myself to do it. I love Moots industrial design, bead blasting, etc, I just don't get their need to plaster the whole bike with decals. Doesn't hurt the ride though.

And I just realized after literally years of reading your posts that your handle is probably not about a tropical fruit.

And all old bikes are heavy tanks right? I like the reverse bike discrimination some of you make to disguise that fact you're just to cheap or ignorant to try something new. There are plenty new/modern bikes that don't fit your stereotypes, as seen above.
Anyhow, keep em coming!

I'm not a big fan of overdone graphics and gaudy decals either, but it's just a prefernce based on what I grew up with. Modern bikes aren't ugly so much as they're just different...and some are quite beautiful in their way. There is more variety for one. Personally I find a real beauty to the workmanship of a Moots.
One disappointing thing about the Specialized is that it's been 30 years since Shimano introduced STI, and the front trim still freaking sucks.

For sure. Even worse, Campy's front trim went from perfect to meh over the same period. Nobody does it perfectly, but the new SRAM yaw front derailleur comes closest to solving the issue that had been solved already. I guess electronic shifting is supposed to be perfect, but then again my now unavailable Campy Mirage and Daytona stuff is perfect also.

I've heard the same about electronic, but I want one damn thing I use that I actually understand.

My dad loved Mopars.
Especially the AAR Cuda.
Wish he still had it.

That bike is top shelf for sure.
I'm picking up an older YBB tomorrow, but I won't dishonor yours and post a pic.

"Wouldn't kick [...] out of bed." I remember hearing that garbage-talk from bar-flies when I was growing up. The thing is: I grew up.

Thanks for the awesome contribution . Any special reason you were hanging out in bars while you were growing up?

What are you running on front? The shifting on mine (50-34) is pretty much the same as 7700DA...crap. The campy 11 SR is so much smoother, with more positions on the front. It's hard to use Shimano honestly.

I have zero guilt when I coat this stuff with mud, road silt, sand and leaf debris.
I give Shimano lots of leeway, as I run XT on my Yeti SB5.
It's sooo hard to beat.

A forum member helped facilitate this C40 for me last year, it is the only modern bike I have, I needed something that wouldn't rust from the salt in the winter. It rides great and I hope to get 50 years use out of it.
