I've added a 600 arabesque crankset with unusual triple chainring setup (52-46-39) to replace the Takagi (52-42) and updated the BB to a Shimano cartridge. Also, Changed out the Tourney brakes for 600 arabesque. I'm attempting to restore my 600 arabesque brake levers (I've had a couple of spills over the years!) and using some 105 Golden Arrows in the meantime.
I also have two other Shoguns - both black coloured Cr-Mo 500s - one has a gold headset ( paid $59.99 at a thrift store). Unfortunately, it is small for me and beat up (paint is not in great shape). I hope to use parts for my other frames.
The second has a red headset and bought it from the son of the deceased owner (paid $130). Both Cr-Mo 500 comes with Deore parts (Shifter, FD & RD), The second one with red headset (Serial # S2G6828) is in an excellent condition.

Just picked up a Shogun 600, with Shimano 105 Golden Arrow groupo. Serial # M4F43XXX. There's a "Japan" sticker at the base of the seat tube. I think it's an '84, from my guess?

It's definitely a 1984 model, as it was manufactured early in a year ending in 4 and Shimano produced 1st generation 105 (aka Golden Arrow) only for the 1983-1986 model years..

Serial M8A01205 shogun 400
will post pictures once I’m able too!
Bought it a few months ago in Michigan for $25 and I’ve been using it as a commuter in the Bay Area. Loving it so far, just have been debating if it’s worth upgrading.

New to me Shogun Cr-Mo 400
hi everyone
just picked up my Shogun 400, first road bike Ive owned. Serial # S3K6076.
Frame is in good shape, paint is good for the most part, S logo on head tube. Dark maroon and cream head tube. 3TTT stem and bars, these are in excellent condition.
Components are a mix, not much is original. Newer nashbar brakes, suntour brake handles. Shimano 600 in the rear, Altus up front. Takagi 40/52 (original?), Matrix wheels, front hub is Shimani, rear hard to tell. 6 speeds. Newer WTB saddle, newer Hutchinson Nitro tires 700x28c labeled
Sticker at top of seat tube is pretty worn but I can make out Champion no.5
Sticker below bike shop sticker is worn beyond recognition.
Any idea on year?

Shogun rebuild
I got a late 80s shogun CroMo 1000, Tange 2 ~56cm, triple triangle. Color: pink & grey. Serial number M6F10919
Headbadge: Sticker
Components: Shimano 600
I can't post pics because I don't have 10 posts yet. But I have a few questions as I've stripped the frame (I'm hoping to save the quil) and I hope to rebuild with Shimano Ultegra r8000 (my apologies if this offends you - the frame has sentimental value and the 30 year-old 600 components were ****).
1. Am I correct in assuming this is a 1986 frame?
2. Am I correct in assuming this is a 26.8 diameter frame set? The seat post and handlebars were rusted, seized and damaged, I binned them.

Just call me Carrie
I’d apologize for reviving a Zombie thread, butI’m guessing my 500 is an ‘85?

Good Morning Do you have any pics? More information an helps a lot. What color is it? Is there a tubing decal of any kind? What size are the wheels? What brand and model of components are on it?

Based on the serial number, it was manufactured in 1982. The format was used by both Miki of Japan and Merida of Taiwan Neither company included model information in the format. To identify the model, we'll need pictures. Please, no more non-drive side photos, like you posted for the Univega. Being able to see the drivetrain is a major aid in identifying the model.

That's a very basic model, near or at the bottom of the line. Possibly a Shogun 100.

Bikes: Wow, where to start? A collection of 1980's and early 90's road, touring, and MTBs from the likes of Trek, Schwinn, Cannondale, Fuji, Miyata, Univega, Panasonic, and GT. It has gotten rather out of control.

I found a 1988 Shogun Alpine GT today. I based this assessment on the serial number Y8A1460(Yamaguchi 1988 January per T-Mar's excellent Asian S/N chart).

1985 built Shogun Prairie Breaker I serial #M5K57088. Sadly a tad small for me but I keep it for guests.

As of the previous Monday, I own a 400 equipped the same as your Mixte. Same componentry. Has a rusted chain, decent cosmetics. Needs an innertube, a chain, and some cleaning, detailing, and love. Freewheel (Suntour) also has rust in spots. Same color of blue too. $15 with Senior discount at Goodwill, one size big for me. This bike traveled south from Massachusetts. And did some time outdoors. Needs love.
