Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How on earth could I convince my friend to not ride against traffic?

I know it's literally illegal to do, but he says that he's scared of getting hit from behind.

Today I saw he rode down the wrong side of a busy 55mph road

Finger update:
Its flexibility is not improving rapidly, but it is improving. The prognosis is 6 months and that feels about right. The pain from bumping it is practically gone, and feeling is returning. The finger tip can now tell what kind of surface it is against. The rest of the hand has strengthened considerably and the index finger is learning its new role as a non-bender. No more is it difficult to insert the hand into a sleeve. It has even begun to step into specific situations all on its own, without any thought from me. I am still in the phase of being surprised by that

Probably for the better - if you would have dragged yourself to 90, you would have been tempted to round it out to 100 and been a little more hurty than you'd like.

Tell him that at intersections drivers on the side roads might not see him when they turn onto his road because they aren't looking in his direction.

You could ask him if you can have his bike when he's dead, but I don't think that the bike is going to survive, either.

I’d go for option 2. With a poll to verify if it was a good deal or not.

Hawk Mountain Century done. It was effing hot. I went through 9 water bottles. Sorry if that disappoints Velo Vol.

Did I miss much while out riding?

He’s been (@Velo Vol) sexually harassed when he was out riding. indyfabz camped in a lake, WhyFi survived an old lady and Trainsnorter wanted to send out a search party for you but we didn’t.

New wheel day!
Still threatening thunderstorms, so no ride until tomorrow.
DT Swiss 350 hubs, LB R45 u-shape rims.
52 mm stem tubes just barely fit, but it's all I have on hand, 7mm of stem is just enough to get the pump head on.

At start of ride, I heard a rider in front of me make a funny sound and saw 2/3 of a chainring fly off his bike.

Apparently he cracked his inner chainring. I suggested he should do the ride in the big ring, but he bailed.

Just hit him in the head with a ball bat, that way the motorist that kills him won't have the associated guilt. Obviously, those idiots piss me off.

Nice!

How long did it take from order to delivery?

I witnessed this yesterday when I was driving to the grocery store. I immediately turned around and went home. I was scared of what I would see next.

I pardon you.

100 miles (in July) is too far for pre-hydration only. Nine bottles seems excessive, though.

Birding report?

The climb was killer and the visitor center at the top was closed because COVID19.

No report.
