Funnily enough, that "stationary bike" thread is a four-and-a-half-year time capsule to me ranking riding outside below both riding a stationary bike and sitting on the couch.

I've watched three different videos and sauerkraut seems pretty easy. But I lack a giant jar.

Or go buy the Costco sized jar of pickled eggs, and when you've eaten them all, use that.

I thiiiiiink Subaru did it first, here, in cars. Then Toyota did it with the Prius. The problem is putting much power through it. Also, Nissan is, ah, not great on the engineering front, so having them bolt a CVT to the back of their excellent VQ engines was a recipe for disaster.

Here is a pic of the new car. If you look closely, you can see the Saturn on the other side.

A reason I look into this is apparently most of the sauerkraut you buy in stores is sterilized. I want to eat the germs.

Now I want one of those Reubens. And here I am, trying to lose weight. See what you did by mentioning sauerkraut? I hope you're proud of yourself.

I appreciate the efficiency and engineering aspect of CVTs, but I am far too old-fashioned to want one on my own car. I mean, this is the first car I've ever owned with an automatic, and I still sometimes wish I'd gotten the manual.

I ate too much sauerkraut as younger man to ever want to eat it again, though there's a local place that makes such a superb Reuben with homemade pastrami that I will happily eat it in that context.

actually I think you are right. The 2011 had a 6 speed automatic transmission and it was a POS. I think they changed or redesigned it for later models.
In any event it shifted horribly from the get-go. This coming from a lifelong Chevy/GM fan. Grew up 30 minutes from the Lordstown, Ohio plant. Lots of people from my area worked there when I grew up. GM had a bad run in the late 2000's. I had a 2008, 2009 and the 2011. They were all junk. Next time I got a car I hung my head in shame and bought a Honda. Will never look back.
It was like leaving an abusive relationship.

Our family plans got rained out this afternoon, so we had to come up with some alternatives. After dinner, it had mostly stopped raining, though it was still windy and cool. The wife wanted to take the kids out to pick up desserts and then I had the bright idea of taking them over to a viewing area at the airport to eat said desserts and watch some planes.
I had happened across the viewing area while on the bike ride today and thought that the kids would get a kick out of it; it's just a mile-long access road that leads to 15-20 parking spaces and a couple picnic tables, but it's close to the some of the action. I was right - the boy, in particular, was bouncing all over the place. In our time there, we saw two planes land and another 8-10 take off, mostly medium-sized passenger jets. I think that we lucked out with the wind direction, too - the runway closest to us had the headwind, so a lot were taxiing over to take off from it.
