I spent it on my stereo which I designed and built myself using AM radio station transmitter tubes to drive low sensitivity speakers.

Love the bikes , but I see a black first gen Mustang convertible with GT style dual exhaust in that garage.

It actually needed a boatload of work and I had too many projects. I'd like to get another one someday but we'll see. Or maybe a fastback this time. But still first gen regardless. Or maybe even a Falcon. I also had a '60 VW Karmann Ghia cabriolet at the time, inherited it from my dad and had a bunch of Porsche parts I was going to put on it.
It only ended up with 356A brakes installed (with a dual circuit master cylinder) and the Porsche style wheels. The 356 engine never got built, the Type IV out of a 914 got rebuilt but never installed, and the Okrasa parts never got put on a 36hp engine. That one saw massive project creep over there years. A weekend brake job turned into a three year overhaul of a lot of things... but it's gone too.

Aside from remodeling our house? Probably tools.
And once again, I have a "classic and vintage" problem. I especially love refurbishing old Delta/Rockwell power tools.

Totally worth spending money on. one of the few sports cars of the time which would reasonably fit someone 6'3" with a large frame. And don't forget the V8 version, the Sunbeam Tiger.

I personally spend a LOT of my hard earned money on guitars, basses, amps, effects pedals, keyboards & recording equipment. This is just a taste:
Fun noise makers
Oh, and I repair instruments as a side hustle...
Neck reset in progress, custom bass build also in progress.

I'm a serious automobile enthusiast but my wife and I planning to purchase a house and start a family within a year or two, and I'm also currently in graduate school... With related practical and budgetary compromises in mind, I spent the last three months researching and test driving numerous cars, finally settling happily with a fully-optioned 2012 Volvo S80 T6 AWD Inscription. It's actually a rather classy and powerful car that is subtle and scarcely seen on the roads here in California... Maintaining it will probably cost about as much as I spend on cycling every year, but I'm sure I'll enjoy for a while!

So, I’m selling the 1800 and will probably get a beater pickup or 4Runner.
Lovely car, though. It has been a pleasure to drive for the time I’ve had it.

Nope, but it is my 7th Volvo of various flavors through the years. I really like it, but I’ve learned that I would prefer to ride my bicycles and hike than do the classic car thing.

Nice choice!
Whatever you do, DON’T visit the Elevate website or other Volvo tuning sources.
There is a rabbit hole of performance upgrades for the whiteblocks, guaranteed to cost thousands.
But oh, those cars are quite capable.
I had a heavily modified C30 some years back (prior owner raced Lotuses and had his shop do the upgrades), and it was downright scary. Total hoot to drive.

Wish I could buy it from you, love the p1800, happily I just bought a Mazda MX5 so no more cars for me for a while. I'm a bit of a heathen though, I'd want to put a 5cyl turbo with a 5sp in it, the engine in them just don't do the car justice. But a b5254 with a turbo spooling to 8psi with a limited slip would make it move.

I’m quite happy with mine - it’s a 1970
1800E, the first year with fuel injection and 130hp, which is surprisingly fun. Mine’s up to date with suspension (Bilstein HD, anti sway bars, poly bushings, etc) so it handles great.
I’ve owned and driven far more powerful/capable cars, but have determined that I’m in the “it is more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow” camp.
Two cars helped get me to that conclusion: my C30, and an extended test drive in a 2016 Porsche Cayman S. Both cars seemed to make triple digit speeds a very frequent and sudden reality.
I know myself enough to know I enjoy a spirited drive, and such cars would almost certainly land me in jail.
I “get” upgrading and modifying / tuning cars.
I will forevermore appreciate such works as a spectator.
One of the coolest 1800 resto-mods that I’ve seen utilized a performance tuned rotary engine, 5 sp and LSD (among other things)

The S80 has 46k miles on it right now, so hopefully I can drive it daily for several years before total rebuilding is required...

I've joined SwedeSpeed but to date I've managed to keep dreaming of it staying in stock form. Your C30 looked like it was a blast! Was it the manual or automatic? I love driving manual and was seriously considering a C30 or C70 for that purpose, but every one I could find always had very high mileage... That's a typical problem looking for manuals, though, since they are obviously meant for people who enjoy driving, and typically do so frequently!

As fun as it was, the FWD platform was a detriment, IMO. Some on the C30Crew forums have found an AWD swap (from some S40 models).
If I were to do it again, I think I’d opt for a S40 or V40 with the T5, AWD and manual.
Otherwise, the turbo redblock platform (classic 60’s-90’s 122, 240,740, etc) tends to be more robust and reliable than the T5 era.
Turbobricks forums are the go-to for those.
I had plans for this ‘79 wagon before selling it (I rebuilt the suspension with upgraded bits, and had plans for a turbo swap and 5sp). Damn I wish I’d kept it. Photo from its current owner
